Pre-Match View From Bury

This game has got Sheffield United written all over it. Everyone expects us to win, the fans will be expectant of a battering and this can lead to a poor atmosphere, making the lane a difficult place for players to play. I am however confident that Wilder will have them ready for that. I would take a 1-0 now.

If all 3 from Saturday are out injured, I don't think it'll be a walk in the park. Might mean a switch in formation as we don't have a like-for-like replacement for Freeman.

Should be well-equipped to beat a side in that vein of form at home, but there can't be any complacency.

Optimistic lot aren't they?

We have to be ruthless tomorrow, show them right from the first whistle what it's like to play against Wilder's Blades. Show them that they were right to be scared of us, as every team in the league should be at this point. 4-0 United.

Hope the blades players don't think it's a walk in the park.
Got to be professional and get 3 pts, if it's a cricket score fine, we won't need goal difference at the end of the season. CW won't let them be complacent.
Cheers Roy.

Thats why I'd start with Clarke, and perhaps find places for the likes of Lavery, Chapman and JOC - players who simply cannot be complacent as they should be desperate to force regular starts.

Be warned...

After the excitement of the Cup win the Blades focused on the League for 1899-1900 and they got off to an unbelievable start going on an unbeaten run of 22 league matches equaling Preston’s run in their 1889 double winning season. Everton, one of the top sides in the League, were stuffed 5-0 on the opening day at Bramall Lane. By mid January United had faced every team in the Division at least once and were top of the League, four points clear with a game in hand over second place Aston Villa. The Blades faced Bury on January 20th needing only to avoid defeat to break Preston’s record. Bury went all out to beat United and the score was 1-1 when Fred Priest went off injured. With United down to ten men Bury snatched a winner. Afterwards Foulke said “We’ve not only been beaten; we’ve been badly shaken” and to this day Bury have been known as ‘The Shakers’.

If we're going to score 5 or more at any point this season this game seems like a great opportunity. But I don't think it'll go like that. They've had 3 batterings in a row, so going into a game like this you'd expect them to switch on a bit more, commit to defending and try and make sure they don't get battered again.

The injuries could also affect us badly, but I don't think complacency will be an issue after Saturday. The players coming in to the team will also be desperate to do well.

Maybe a routine but unspectacular win is likely. I'd definitely take that. A clean 2-0 would do nicely.

Best thing their fans can do to cheer themselves up is to come on this forum, may have a couple of players out and it's armagedon, complacency? just remember who is our manager, what's happened to all the confidence? As one of their fans has listed, our form against theirs, no guarantees of course but christ we should still hammer em.

You said 1-1 yesterday, heard some news regarding injuries?

WWWWDWDWWDWWW vs LLLLLLLDLLLL - is it just me or does this look like a jynx? (Touch Wood)

The fact there fans have that view, will to some extent be shared by there players. They will not be looking forward to coming to the Lane.

As many have said we need to be ruthless and get a nice early goal to compound there misery, and then go for the jugular.

In contrast they have nothing to lose and if they go ahead they'll be a different side. 1st goal will be very important.

Wimbledon won't have taken them lightly. They've had to fight for everything they have since the day they were formed and Bury weren't about to stand in their way.

If we go in the game with that attitude we'll win 6-0. If we go in thinking we've won we might just slip up here...

After all these years I go into these games extremely apprehensive. Surely we will win but its also gotta go wrong at some point, hasn't it?

Didn't Bury get battered the game before we played them last season, and then beat us!

They will almost certainly pack the defence so an early goal would be nice to open it up a bit and get their heads to drop.

The longer it goes without us leading the more the frustration could develop.

Going for a nervy one nil win.
