Roy's View From... Pre-match View From Barnsley

To be honest, the vast majority of folks from Barnsley that I've met have been sound. Genuine people with some of the best Yorkshire accents out there. So they hate Sheffield United, I hate their football club and on the day, I hate every one of the fuckers but that's life. I'm glad they're passionate, should make for a good atmosphere.

All that talk about them being thick? Fuck me, we have jokers saying that MGW should pack in showboating, and yep, we have Brian the fucking Blade and all his bullshit so having a few thick fans is hardly exclusive to them.

UTBFTP
They won’t sell all their tickets. Won’t be a patch on the Forest or Boro atmosphere.

Barnsley fans deflection wins the day. All their chatter about attendances means they are reluctant to discuss the leathering they will get when they come to the Lane.
Anything to avoid the obvious outcome, a hammering for Bansley. 😊

I don’t think there’s anything between the 2 clubs at all, I just find your insistence that we’re much bigger a load of biased nonsense.

It’s a childish argument.
Surely the only barometer of any importance is in which division you find yourself in the current season and how you are doing in it?

Arguing how good you were, rather than how good you are is somewhat tragic really.

It's like the Bruce Springsteen song glory days. Just harping on about the past because you've got nothing going for you in the present.

Worst case scenario with the Pigs is that we don't go up and they do. So their most successful outcome and our least successful one leads to parity.

I happen to think we will make the play offs because we are very strong at home and have more home games than anyone. Then if confirmed, assuming players do return, we have far more flair players that can produce magic that can win you big games.

Provided we don't get any more injuries I think our quality will see us in the mix. Get Basham and Baldock back and I'm supremely confident because they are super competitive winners.

116 seasons each we have 7368 points
owls have 7063
owls have only played 40 games less but are 303 points worse than us
but only from 120 points max possible more played for
3 points for a win was introduced in 1981 so factoring that in makes it an even bigger margin

Winning cups decads ago doesn’t make my club a big club now, it’s totally irrelevant. What does count is fanbase, infrastructure, stadium and income and we beat the pigs on every single count.

There’s no “narrowing” of the gap. We’ve done it and indisputably now we have the bigger fanbase. We have the better stadium, infrastructure and income. Pigs are small fry compared to us.
This is the point. Who would suggest that teams that flew up the leagues to cup and PL success but crashed and burned into the lower leagues are still big clubs? It’s about more than that. Man Utd have won nothing for 6 years but I don’t think anyone will be saying they are slipping in terms of importance or standing in the world game.To my mind, outside of the obvious names at the top of the PL year in year out its a pretty pointless debate. Who gives a shit if we rank 23rd or whatever. And I certainly don’t want to bask in the “glory” of being arguably bigger than sodding Portsmouth. All that should be left in the playground at Primary School. Sheffield United are the most important club in the universe to me and that’s all I care about.

I can't remember the website either but EFLStats post "average home attendance not including away fans" and "average away following" updates every now and then.

These are the most recent, from Feb 21st:

If anyone has an account on their forum, this needs posting in response. They could do with the education.

One thing we can say is that supporting our club is never boring. In my time following them we’ve been:

Relegated from the Premier League three times

Promoted from the championship by finishing second twice.

Relegated from Championship once.

Won league one once.

Lost in the championship play off final three times.

Lost in the championship play off semis once.

Lost in the league one play off final once.

Lost in the league one play off semis twice.

Got to the FA Cup semi-final three times.

Got to the league cup semi final twice.

I know we haven’t won a great deal but I’d take this over some of the no existent teams that just plod along each season never really achieving anything.

This is what our pathetic loyalty points system has done to our away support, and what fans of other clubs don't understand

We don't need a loyalty points system for away games and the empty sections of away stadiums after we struggle to sell the initial allocation with people and the club fucking about proves it.
We have the highest away following in the division.

Last response on this from me...

But they've got more trophies than us.

But they've got more trophies than us.

But they've got more trophies than us.

But they've got more trophies than us.

They have 4 top flight wins and 9 league titles in total.
We have 4 league titles in total, 1 in each league.

Cups are level at 4 each.

So they've got MORE trophies, and better trophies.
Be careful pal there’s a few very insecure blades on here get really really concerned and weird if you dare say pigs are a more successful club than blades. They’ll start calling you pork and say they reading it in a south barnsley accent and strange names. Fact is they call wendy fans deluded which for the most part they are but the silly twats don’t realise they sound just as deluded as the fucking pigs they are calling deluded 🤣🤦🏻

Hey up lads. Just to clarify- we're not Pigs lite. We have less in common with them than you do. This Blades-Rotherham thing that's going on - we don't have that with anyone. We dislike both Sheffield clubs. It's up and down who we dislike the most. As you were.
What blades - Rotherham thing ?

.”League one has 2 bigger clubs than blunts in it”

Ah the old big club syndrome rears it's head again how South Barnsley. You could say most clubs in League One are bigger than the dingles 😂

We have the highest away following in the division.
Yes, that is correct
But it could be more

Instead of the club obsessing about giving those with the most loyalty points priority and taking an age to work their way through the system they should just allow anybody with loyalty points to buy a ticket

This would mean the allocations get sold much quicker and people can plan their trip better.

The loyalty points can still count, but only used when demand outstrips supply

You could say that but you'd be wrong 👍🏻

I've always assumed they manage the workflow of ticket sales so that the ticket office staff don't get overwhelmed.

You've been up each other's arses for a few years now. Not all of you by any means but a significant number.
Most of us think of Rotherham as somewhere to drive through very fast, preferably with eyes tightly closed, and the windows wound up, just in case. The perception from outsiders is a long way off the mark.

They touch animals. Sexually.
Do you know what, this isn't the most profound comment to follow up on, but here we go. This whole thing... I'd always thought it was a bit pathetic but a pretty standard way to give shit to opposition fans.

But a couple of weeks ago, I was speaking to a mate who's a copper in the Barnsley area, and it's apparently very, very fucking true. There is a genuine problem in the area with animal...relations. So f*** me blue, it's not just a gag, they apparently do.

Don’t be so fucking stupid. The scrounging muppets can fuck right off. The only time I want Rotherham to win any game of football is against the piggy bastards and the dirty twats up the M1, as you were. 👍😁

That thread proves fuck all to suggest a “significant number” of our fans like Rotherham, some people live there and probably have friends who support them, that’s their prerogative but to suggest a significant number of our fans give two shiny shits about them is a load of bollocks.

We helped them out when they were on their arses some years ago, we also did the same to Bury which unfortunately didn’t end very well, doesn’t mean we all love Rotherham or Bury, some of us love football and don’t like seeing decent clubs going out of business. Hope that sorts your myth out.

We helped them out too. We don't have threads on our forum saying hope they go up/stay up/win on Satdi etc though.

Would you start similar threads about us, Donny or Chesterfield? Can't see it. No need to get defensive though it's nothing to be embarrassed about. It's probably more embarrassing on their part really.

They probably do, but there's no doubt about it that for most of our away games there are less tickets being sold than what there used to be.

Most tickets are sold online anyway, so I can't see why the ticket office staff can't cope with processing 2000 -3,000 tickets, there's an average of 10-14 days between away games usually, so I don't understand how they can be so overwhelmed

I live in Rotherham as do many Blades and I can assure you I have had far more football run ins with them than friendly chats.

Probably quit whilst your behind as you don’t know what you are talking about.

Attendances seem to be a big thing for the pigs and pigs lite supporters. Will start worrying about that sort of thing when you receive additional points for it..
They do get additional points for it

They’re 10 points clear of Rotherham in the league table of their minds

I’m not being defensive, I’m just setting you straight as I’m fairly certain I know more Blades fans than you and trust me, they aren’t very keen on bleeding Rotherham. Anyway, stop trying to tell us who we can like and not like, trot on, you have to earn that right. 😉

I know plenty of Blades and their views on Rotherham seem to range from don't mind them to no opinion either way. They're all Sheffielders though. You can like who you want though. I give you permission.
