Then there's Sheffield United. Admittedly, I know far fewer United fans. Some of them, (generally the ones aged above 30) are decent lads who you can have a conversation with. But it has come to the point where when I meet someone from Sheffield, I can usually tell what football team they support based on how they act. If they're a bit of a cock, 9/10 they seem to be United fans. Had an incident a few years ago out in Sheffield. Met some lads around my age, United fans, had a chat, a few drinks and sung songs with them. Seemed decent enough lads. Then got back to the trainstation going for the last train, and the United lads were on the opposite platform, and all of a sudden, decided that they were "hard". Throwing bottles and "wanting to go". So hard that they had waited to do this just as their train was pulling in. Hopped on said train and started flicking the V. There was another lad I met on holiday, thought he was a cock at the time. Wanted my phone number to keep in touch; me being the pleasant chap I am obliged. Said chap only ever text me when United ever beat us after that, just to tell me how many fingers I had and how shit my town and team were.
Then there's the fans on radio Sheffield. Wanting their manager sacking g if they're ever below 4th in the league, including when they were in the premier league. Brian the Blade and his very very very accurate attendance rants; we average 5,000 allegedly. The ones who constantly phone up the programme asking where the money has gone, as though every penny which is received in a transfer fee should be put back into transfers. "Where's the Tevez money gone", "Where's the Kyle's money gone",
"Where's the Maguire money gone", have a day off!!!
Then there's the activities of their club. Starting with Neil Warnock's blatant cheating in that game with West Brom all those years ago. The handling of Iain Hume's assault. The handling of the Tevez fracas. Their intention to sue anyone who caused them to suffer financially. Then there was Kevin Blackwell. Then Daniel Bogdanovic who stated that signing for Sheffield United was a dream come true, nothing to do with the free flights he would have no doubt received through main club sponsor, 'Visit Malta'. And their history isn't that good and their attendance isn't anywhere near as good as Wednesday's. And besides, even if it was, it's gotten them 5 points further up the football pyramid than us, so well done to them.
So that's why I don't like Sheffield United. And if that means I'm having a 'love in' with Sheffield Wednesday, then so be it.
