This would make us a bit less shit. All the slow old plodders dropped for use off the bench. McDonald given real responsibility. Pace at fullback. Enthusiam up front. Forte out of the firing line.

It's still deeply flawed, but at least it's something less dull to look at on a Saturday afternoon.

Long

Westlake Maguire Collins Hill

Flynn McDonald Whitehouse McFadzean

Murphy Ironside

Danny, you can thank me later.

Replace Murphy for Porter and McMahon for Westlake in that line up I reckon. Not enough pace up front with Porter/Ironside and McMahon can take a free kick and sometime control a ball which Westlake sometimes struggles with :-)

I'd go

Long
McMahon Maguire Collins Hill
Flynn McDonald Whitehouse McFadzean
Porter Murphy
Essentially the same as yours, but I don't think Porter and Ironside would work well together and I don't rate Westlake at all to tell the truth.

Edit: great minds (almost) think alike...

D'oh. I completely forgot Murphy existed. Which in my defence was understandable after last night.

I'll give you Murphy but you can't have McMahon. :)

God bless the edit button.

I hate to say this but I think I would have Doyle instead of McDonald. We don't know which McDonald will turn up so don't want to put his performance on the shoulders of Whitehouse. Also McFadzean plays fullback for England u19's and we need a result

Long
McMahon Maguire Collins Hill
Flynn Whitehouse Doyle McFadzean
Ironside Murphy

What team do I expect to play?

Howard
McMahon Collins Higginbottom Hill
Robson McDonald Doyle Robson
Kitson Forte

Wilson is such a coward, Maguire will take the fall for last night

We all know that McMahon will walk straight back into the side on Saturday, meaning that Hill will shift to left back. If we're playing two solid, defence first full backs then we absolutely have to have pace, invention and a willingness to attack on the flanks.

With that in mind*:

Long
McMahon** Maguire Collins Hill
Harriott Whitehouse McDonald
McFadzean Porter Murphy

*4-3-3 formation with Murphy and McFadzean cutting inside onto their stronger foot. Bugger it, we might as well go out of the play-offs in a blaze of glory :)

**as the season's petering out anyway I'd be tempted to play Flynn at right back. He's got the stamina, workrate and defensive ability to play there and do it well.

As per Sheffielder, I expect:

Long
McMahon Maguire Collins Hill
Robson McDonald Doyle Flynn
Kitson Porter

With Danny droning on about the need to be solid in the build up.

I'd have both attacking full backs in (though Hill was one of few to come out with an honest wage yesterday).

I'd go -

Long

Westlake Maguire Collins McFadzean

Flynn McDonald Doyle Forte

Murphy Porter/Kitson

I did consider putting McFadzean at left back due to him playing that position for england u21's.

Unfortunately it would mean wilson would probably have to play Hill at right wing and Higginbottom upfront
