So, imagine it’s the 8th Feb and you are picking the team for the Portsmouth fixture.

Assumptions:

We’ve signed Choudrey & Jonjo Kenny. No CB, as no obvious name to throw into the mix.
Barring Blaster, all our squad are fit and ready for selection, no suspensions.

Who’s the first choice 11? Who misses out?

There’ll be some fairly tough decisions and decent players not starting…

I’d be interested in different perspectives!

That's a worry. Wilder will give him every chance to justify the crazy spend. But if he's an overall limitation to the team, I hope Wilder can do what's necessary

Think this new CB might surprise us, wasn't it after the Norwich game where CW mentioned signing a player whose name hasn't been mentioned to him.

He's been asked about Cannon, BBD, JJK and Shea Charles in recent interviews, not sure if he was asked about Choudhury or not?

Football League World link with Jimmy Dunne is a bit questionable (they are an opinion website) but they did mention Choudhury having his medical before any of the local journalists mentioned it so there might be something in it.

Going for our strongest 11 (not including Blaster) and hopefully new signings.

A little harsh on the likes of Peck and Brewster to completely drop the from the bench (given their performances this season) but tried to make the bench more balanced instead of being stacked with either attackers or defenders.

Wilder will need to be more dynamic with his starting line up, but that will also require him to be more positive and urgent with his use of substitutes.

If he is honest with himself, he underestimated Hull, and placed a great deal of faith in individual players, especially those who only recently arrived. I do realise the selection of starters was driven by a weaker choice, due to poor squad depth and availability.

Substitutions must be made if a player is faltering form wise. No excuses for any hesitance with the players at his disposal. I hope that Gilchrist plays better at full back, because I don’t believe he is the right replacement for Souttar at CB.

I think Cannon and Campbell are far too similar in the runs they make to play together. Campbell is a superior all round footballer, by a fair amount but he didn't cost £££. If it is to be Choudhury and Souza, Gilchrist (and to a lesser extent Robinson) being unable to progress it forwards becomes an even bigger issue but I still think this'll be the base, first XI

Surprised to see so many people picking Hamer in DM/CM when he hasn't played there all season (yes he played in a similar position last year, but in a different formation), especially when we have plenty of other options. He'll be CAM or left wing depending on BBD's form.

No place for Choudhury seems a bit mad, assuming we sign him, but clearly the expectation is that not all of these players are going to be fit at the same time. O'Hare and Campbell probably deserve to start but I suspect the new signings will get the nod.

I've been thinking for a while that if we add some more midfield might and stature then we'd be perfect for 4-3-1-2 (or 2-1 - change depending on opponents and a lot of in game flexibility and ability to go to the bench). Especially with the forward options we now have, we'd have some real quality on the pitch, and crucially, playing in the right roles. Not that we don't have quality now, but I do think Hamer is wasted for large parts of the game playing where he is and Rak Sakyi / Brooks (when fit) just haven't worried defences regularly enough to justify sticking with wingers.

Maybe it wouldn't change anything with regards to the front foot attacking intent we lack at times, but I'd hope it would allow 2 to 3 players to be very attack focused backed up by Hamer + one in midfield. Obviously seems daft talking about lacking attacking threat when we'd be top for points deducted, but (I think) we're all on the same page with that one.
