I'd like 6-8 new signings, including the following positions.

GK
CB
RB/RWB
LB/LWB
LW
CF

Something like this for example:

Etheridge - Free
Webster - 400k
Baptiste - 300k
Bell - Free
Darikwa - Loan
LuaLua - 500k
Blackman - Loan
Gallagher - Loan / £3m!

GK: Moore, Etheridge

CB: Baptiste, Webster, Basham, O'Connell, Wright

RB/RWB: Freeman, Darikwa, (Baptiste, Basham)

LB/LWB: Lafferty, Bell

CM/ACM: Coutts, Fleck, Carruthers, Duffy, (Whiteman, Basham)

RW: Blackman, Brooks, (Darikwa, Carruthers, LuaLua)

LW: LuaLua, (Brooks, Blackman)

CF: Sharp, Gallagher, Lavery, Hanson, (Blackman)

23 first team players, depth in every position and the ability to play any formation. Athleticism, width and attacking flair added, and experience at the back.

Maybe a lack of a good defensive midfielder but Basham deserves opportunities next season and I wouldn't want to block Whiteman's path to the team too much.

We need a new goalkeeper urgently. George Long will probably be released in the summer and while Simon Moore is a decent goalie who pulls off some good saves, he has matches during which he seems to lose his nerve completely. It happened last night. He flapped at crosses and you could tell the rest of the defence were panicking because they didn't know what he was going to do next. Was he going to come out for the ball or not? He seemed to be as jittery as a kitten.

Simon is among the better goalkeepers in our current division but I see him as a reserve next season, with a new keeper wearing the number 1 shirt. Among the best I've seen this year are Luke Daniels of Scunthorpe and, one bad mistake at BDTBL notwithstanding, Lawrence Vigoroux of Swindon. I don't know whether they will be available, mind.

Lewis Grabban's a good shout. He'd be a good fit for us next season and we'd be a good fit for him.

He'll still have 2 years on his Bournemouth contract though so maybe a loan would be more likely due to wages.

Luke Daniels is probably one to add to the keepers list, looks like he's out of contract. Vigouroux seems well thought of.

Chairman says nothing. When did that become interesting? Social media has a lot to answer for!
he was asked about this in the summer but claimed it was rubbish and he was not going to sell maddison, he didn't confirm nor deny it this time sounds like he may have changed his mind

Maddison's out of contract in 2018 and Peterborough have a policy of selling players before they get into the last year of their contracts.

He's an exciting and versatile player but can be a bit selfish, taking shots from stupid positions etc. Depends how much he'd cost. He's easily got the ability to play in the Championship. Think he can play wing back too.

Good list there and would be happy with any of those signings.

Just to disagree slightly on the need for a good DM as i think this is an absolute must. The defence generally come in for stick when we concede but if yo look at the 2 goals the other night realistically they should have been stopped by our midfield. Would like to see a quality, experienced head in there myself.

I definitely see that point of view. I'd just hope we could get by without having to sacrifice what has been our strength this season, either through tactical tweaks or moving Basham or possibly Whiteman in there for certain games.

If we sign someone like that I'd like it to be Jamie Allen from Rochdale. He's out of contract but they'll be due compensation, and it wouldn't be too cheap because he's been there a long time and played a lot of games. He's not the experienced type you mention but he's been their captain for a while and looks a very promising, rounded midfielder who'll get about the pitch and get stuck in. Would be a good asset for us IMO.

If we were going to sign someone to be an undoubted first choice I'd like it to be Coady. He'd suit us very well and would be good with Fleck.

Just been reading this and I reckon Matty James could be decent shout for a target in the summer.

Obviously it's all depending on how much he'll set us back seeing as according to the article Barnsley can't afford to keep him but He's been playing well for them and he only has a year left on his contract so we might be able to wrangle a decent fee.

We also know how well we've done in the past with midfielders from Leicester so there's that as well. ;)

Realise we're blessed in midfield, but reckon Southend's Ryan Leonard is a stand-out at this level who could definitely make the step up (& maybe he will anyway if they make the play-offs).

Very consistent all-round midfielder, with a bit of quality about him. Still a good age, but with a lot of experience.

Two winger possibilities...

Jon Taylor - Rotherham winger who was signed from Peterborough, primarily a right winger but I think they've played him as a striker too. Did well for Peterborough in L1 last season. Quite small, quick, energetic and direct and has got a goal in him. Bit like Jamie Ward.

Stephen McLaughlin - Southend left winger who was having a great season before getting injured around January.

Maybe both of these would sign without expecting to start every game, which will be something to consider if we're to continue with 3-5-2.

I think you have the right positions but not sure about the players: 6 would be the maximum new players in next year.

Ideally we'd not sign more than 6 but we couldn't get everything we need if we only sign 6.

It would probably mean keeping Long and not signing any new keeper for a start. Or possibly only signing one centre half. Or committing too much to Freeman and Lafferty as first choice and just signing someone to cover both of them, like Riley.

I have us signing 8 there with no central midfielder, I think that says something.

We will need fairly significant reinforcements at both ends of the pitch. Certainly if we want to compete well, and also if we want absolute flexibility with the formations we can play.

Considering the players I expect to leave then I don't think 8 would be too many. I have the squad at 23 there with the anticipated departures, and that's a good number. Even if a couple of the anticipated departures stay, like Wilson and Clarke, it would still only be 25, which is less than we have now.

A couple of Walsall fans reckon that Etheridge is off to us in the summer, apparently he want's to leave and his hearts not in it, been poor for them recently though

I have to disagree with a few on here saying only sign 6 etc.

A quick count of players that I expect to leave (just guess work) Long, K wallace, James Wilson, Chris Hussey, Scougall, McNulty, Clarke , Done, Maybe O Shea, Brayford, Chapman.

We know CW doesn't mess around, some will be released, some will find Clubs, some will have to be paid up or wages subsided for new clubs. That's 11 players there alone. You'd think we would want to carry maybe an extra 2 players in the Championship, as loan deal.

I think you can expect a busy summer.

I thought he looked a bit overly respectful in front of our fans when Walsall's goals went in!

Still hope we go down the Barnsley-type route - the sort of route we've been on ourselves this season - of signing up-&-coming players or hungry players with something to prove (along with quality loanees), rather than "experienced" wasters from a higher level.

I liked the look of Forster Caskey yesterday thought he had a good game I couldn't believe it when he got subbed.

I agree entirely although still think we could do with a couple of experienced heads in there. I would like to see an upgrade on Jake Wright in the sweeper role if we're going to stick with 3 at the back and think we need a good quality experienced DM as we definitely won't be able to rely on all out attack like we have done this year and still think we're found wanting sometimes when teams are attacking ie Swindon last week.

Struggled badly at Rotherham although they all have but most Rotherham fans i've spoken to said he was awful. Maybe L1 is his level.

Also not sure will be that active in MF recruitment but would like to see that scottish lad from Burton in a swap deal for Brayford maybe.

I've always liked that Michael Jacobs (formerly of Wolves, think he's now at Wigan). Clever little midfielder. Controlled the game when Wolves beat us at BL in League One.
