I’ve never felt so low after a win, after going back to the top of the table no less. Yesterday sickened me and I’ve still not got over it. I feel so sorry for Couttsy, worked his arse off to get over his old injury problems and then has a horrific leg break to contend with when he’s playing the best football of his career.
But it’s time to focus on some positives...
We are second in the division. Unbelievable. Keeping the pace with free spending Wolves who have players worth upwards of £15mil and a manager who is top top drawer.
Our manager is the best in the league. He will tweak the system in subtle ways we won’t even notice, starting on Tuesday.
Coutts loss is a chance for Lundstram to step up to the plate. Judging on what Wilder has managed with every player who’s willing to give 110% for the cause I see no reason why he can’t improve Lundstram just as much. I’m excited by him, he had a HUGE reputation for Oxford and an impressive pedigree at the Everton academy. He’s a player.
Aside from that I’m January we will have the pick of the bunch of loans from the top clubs after they’ve seen what we’ve done with CCV and Blackman. When there are players like Loftus Cheek in Chelsea’s academy struggling for any sort of game time until his loan at Palace that’s something I’m excited by. There are some amazingly gifted technical players in their 23’s, players that will be able to fill Couttsy’s boots all being well. Although they are huge boots to fill.
We still have two of the best midfield trio in the league fit and firing. Playing their best football, doing everything right. It should be any possession based players dream to slot in the 3 with them 2.
We might just have TWO twenty goal a season strikers. One already has 9, the other 8 (I think) and it’s not even nearly December. Those two are Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp, you know, the two who are nowhere good enough for la liga... pfffft.
Don’t get me wrong it’s going to very tough without Paul. Especially initially considering we are up against a fantastic midfield on Tuesday when we REALLY could’ve done with being at full strength. However we have to make do with what we’ve got, and what we’ve got is a bunch of lads who are going to give us 110% and then some. A bunch who quite literally don’t lose, don’t know the meaning of the word.
Cometh the hour cometh the man. Time to step up on Tuesday John, I know you can do it.
Best of luck with your recovery Couttsy, we’ll all be thinking about you. And we’ll be sure to let you lift that trophy first in May
