I’ve never felt so low after a win, after going back to the top of the table no less. Yesterday sickened me and I’ve still not got over it. I feel so sorry for Couttsy, worked his arse off to get over his old injury problems and then has a horrific leg break to contend with when he’s playing the best football of his career.

But it’s time to focus on some positives...

We are second in the division. Unbelievable. Keeping the pace with free spending Wolves who have players worth upwards of £15mil and a manager who is top top drawer.

Our manager is the best in the league. He will tweak the system in subtle ways we won’t even notice, starting on Tuesday.

Coutts loss is a chance for Lundstram to step up to the plate. Judging on what Wilder has managed with every player who’s willing to give 110% for the cause I see no reason why he can’t improve Lundstram just as much. I’m excited by him, he had a HUGE reputation for Oxford and an impressive pedigree at the Everton academy. He’s a player.

Aside from that I’m January we will have the pick of the bunch of loans from the top clubs after they’ve seen what we’ve done with CCV and Blackman. When there are players like Loftus Cheek in Chelsea’s academy struggling for any sort of game time until his loan at Palace that’s something I’m excited by. There are some amazingly gifted technical players in their 23’s, players that will be able to fill Couttsy’s boots all being well. Although they are huge boots to fill.

We still have two of the best midfield trio in the league fit and firing. Playing their best football, doing everything right. It should be any possession based players dream to slot in the 3 with them 2.

We might just have TWO twenty goal a season strikers. One already has 9, the other 8 (I think) and it’s not even nearly December. Those two are Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp, you know, the two who are nowhere good enough for la liga... pfffft.

Don’t get me wrong it’s going to very tough without Paul. Especially initially considering we are up against a fantastic midfield on Tuesday when we REALLY could’ve done with being at full strength. However we have to make do with what we’ve got, and what we’ve got is a bunch of lads who are going to give us 110% and then some. A bunch who quite literally don’t lose, don’t know the meaning of the word.

Cometh the hour cometh the man. Time to step up on Tuesday John, I know you can do it.

Best of luck with your recovery Couttsy, we’ll all be thinking about you. And we’ll be sure to let you lift that trophy first in May :)

Well said danny, its funny I have felt the same all day but decided against posting about it because I thought I would be accused of being negative, waking up this morning was like a morning after losing in the play off finals, big, big game on Tuesday, a good performance and a win will really lift the spirits after the injury, a poor performance and a loss, well lets not go there

The replacement is already on our books.

Ben Whiteman. He’s ready now and will come back in January to compete with Lundstram for the position.

Smashed it mate.

I’ve said it on another thread; after all the bollocks we’ve been through and the bad, bad times over the last few years, a blip like this simply strengthens our resolve.

Nah, needs a full season in league one. Will do wonders for his development.

Do you know what the biggest positive is.....

There's always next season.

Even if we don't recover from losing Coutts, he should be back for the start of next season. O'Connell and Fleck will still be here. We'll have either Brooks or a huge transfer fee to invest. The squad should only get stronger.

But the big one is that Wilder will still be here. And as long as he stays, it won't be long until we get promoted.

One thing to add is that whoever CW/AK chooses to replace Mr Coutts with. Those of you who are expecting some sort of direct replacement give whoever it is a chance without the inpatients we have seen in the past from fans.
i don't think there will be a 'direct' replacement as such boo.. unless we're in for Fabregas

110% simply isn't enough I fear. I think we'll need 111%. Then again if anyone can squeeze the extra 1% out of anyone Chris's is 112% your man. :D

Could not agree more with this. We all need to stick together and get behind whoever is wearing the shirt, no place for negativity in the stands. CW and AK will deal with any short comings on the pitch.

Maybe Fulham's the best sort of game to be going into right now, a supreme passing side where we've got to step up right away, no ifs, no buts?

Fully believe that Lundstram's got something about him - he's brave & he doesn't hide (which is maybe the supreme asset to have right now in seeking to replace the absolute colossus that Couttsy's become).

Even last night where he made that shocker of a pass that just about let Burton in, he was still continually showing for the ball afterwards. He knows he's got mates around him who'll bale him out while he seeks his feet.

Last thing he needs is for us to get on his back as he inevitably has a teething problem or two. Which I don't believe will happen anyway. Tuesday's likely to be quite an odd, highly-positive (WHFesque) atmosphere, I reckon.

Chrissy and Alan Knill will make him feels he belongs, we can do the same Tuesday, big night in the Season for everyone

I think I will need a Beer
Huge day on Tuesday for him. There isn’t a better midfield in this league apart from probably Wolves and us. The game will be won and lost in midfield, if he plays well and we win the confidence that gives him will be amazing and we will see some player blossoming in front of our eyes

I dont get all the doubt over Lundstram

who brought him here, the one of our own man , why ,
just to make the numbers up , err no
is he like Coutts , no different sort of player,
People kept demanding we bring in expensive players before we lost Coutts
Obviously some werent happy with what we had, 3 or 4 were needed , with lots of pace
Were these replacements exact clones of Coutts , again no
Some wanted change but now its enforced are bleating about it
Have a go if we collapse in a heap and fall 8 to places

but not when he comes on and stops the opposition having an attempt on goal in the second half
as the home team Burton were obligated to try more second half , but we stood strong and exxtended our lead
Lundstram was solid and slotted in well ,
he will never be Coutts, but he doesnt need to be , he needs to be a very good Lundstram

I have read that about 6 times and it still makes no sense whatsoever.

people arent giving what we have a chance , but these are players Chris brought in as cover
just let them fill in
Im sure Wilder didnt buy them because they look nice on a team photo

read threads from a year ago and people doubted O Connel , Basham , Clarke , some even Fleck
lets give what Chris brought in to do a job get on with it
