Lost a little bit in all the noise about yesterday’s poor performance in a game we stole 3 points in a game where on another day we would have been thumped but for one, but credit where credit is due, I thought Pompey was excellent yesterday.

Tactically they got it spot on. The nailed us with the high press, won everything in midfield and moved the ball around with pace and purpose. I thought both wide players were excellent yesterday and they looked every inch a side whose total was a lot more than their sum parts. I’m actually quite surprised they aren’t a lot higher up and knocking on the door of the play offs

I want to praise their front line too. They knocked balls up to Bishop and despite not being physically bigger than Anel he wrestled him out of dealing with them effectively and they seized on the knock downs. Anel & Robbo were almost bullied all afternoon. It reminded me of dear old HMS all those years ago. In comparison Cannon & Campbell were lightweight when we went long up to them. Murphy was the best player on the field by a country mile. How they didn't win yesterday was unbelievable.

If Vini or Hanza are as ineffective on Wednesday, Hackney will tear us a new one.

C'mon Blades. Winning 1st & 2nd balls needs more aggression & a young boy like Sydie shouldn't be the one giving the lead!

Murpht had an absolute blinder, but having checked their forum overnight, he's that classic hot and cold winger, so perhpas we just got him on his best day. Add that to the fact that our Centre halfs never got a grip on the simple ball down the middle and they did a great job on us. We needa rethink for Wednesday

Manager had done his homework on us. I was most impressed by the rigid flat four he set up on the press when we had a goal kick. He’d seen how we invariably and boringly play out by usually ultimately having to use the fullbacks and had stifled that route. Most teams seem to set up with three on a press and then build up the numbers, but four on about 70 yards was just inviting us to do something different like go through the middle and we couldn’t. As for Murphy! How much would he cost?

They were one of the best teams I’ve seen here so far this season. And their fans gave it plenty, even though they pretty much have just that one wildly irritating song. As an added bonus I couldn’t hear that cunt with the bell and the stupid hat.
Perhaps he was having his annual bath.
