Ports It Is Then...

Kitson didn't do much on Monday that Porter can't do.

For home matches, the important thing is that we up the tempo and push the target man a bit higher up, so that Forte can run in behind defences, not be forced to try and hold up the ball himself after the flick ons.

For away matches, the opposition will often push up higher, which will leave more space in behind them. Whoever plays target man can actually help stretch them by dropping deep and like at Tranmere Forte may be able to cause them problems with his pace.

At home I cannot see how we can "run in behind" with the target man pushed further up. It appeared to me that only Miller had that anticipation out of any of the forwards in our squad. Forte is used to running on to through balls in a counter attack system (like at Tranny). When he has time to think he fumbles. The real downfall is the paucity of decent delivery into the penalty area in open play - something that both Kitson and Porter would thrive on but don't get. Our negative tactics keep plenty of clean sheets but they will not win us a place on the promotion bus.

I'll go with this if he doesnt think Ironside is quite ready.

Porter linked up well with Miller earlier in the season. If he can replicate that with Forte/Murphy (whoever he starts with) then i'm fine with it.

He's never gonna be prolific but neither is Kitson.

I'd have preferred us to take a punt on Ironside but if Danny thinks he needs the experience up there at this stage of the season then fair enough. A touch dissapointing though as only one of the two will be here next season...

You mean Porter don't you ;)

Porter - Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......

Things are so, so bad, we are pining our promotion hopes on Porter!

Sadly, it's looking like third division football next season. I'll get my head around it now, and treat anything else as a bonus.

get cresswell back. hes shown he can score. hes shown he can walk without his zimmerframe.

thats good enough for me.

If Porter plays, we won't be catching Doncaster that's a fact. Im sorry but he is absolute shite, one of the most ineffective strikers I have ever seen.

Surely Ironside is a better option? At least he's got a bit of passion about him. Either way as they'd both have to partner Forte, only the greatest optimist can be clinging on to any slim hopes of promotion. FFS

Supporters calling for Porter to start up front, have we really sunk to such a depth???

porter/ ironside looks far more appealing to me

we have to use whats available if kitsons injured to be fair it looked like hed lost the use of both his legs last week

After his performances in the play off semis last year, the decision to drop him for the final in favour of a half fit Cresswell was ridiculous and I still think we'd have had a much better chance of winning with him starting.

As for people wanting to risk trying Ironside, I know he's not played much, but he's never scored a league goal for us and hasn't really looked like doing.

Porter's goal scoring record for us has been poor, but when he gets a settled run in the side he looks more threatening and does bag a couple. He also scored plenty for Oldham at this level, so does have it in him. If Kitson is injured, I'd stick with Porter until the end of the season.

Does it mean we can drop Kitson now ???

Because Porter scored a tap in? It means my assertion that we were mad to sell our leading goalscorer was unsurprisingly bang on. The only surprising part is that there are still people prepared to clap as the club self destructs.

:(

It's not rocket science is it Len Alco?

But Len constantly spouted bollocks. I stated that selling our leading scorer when we had few goals in us anyway was stupid. Quite remarkably, some still think I'm the one making profound statements.

So now it matters how we score the goals does it?? Didnt realise.

Shame nobody scored a tap in during the last two home games. I'll take 3 tap ins in the next 3 home games.

Do you like to argue for arguments sake? Genuine question

I've got loads of passion but I would be shite up front.

Gizza smile. :)

I agreed with you at the time. But reminding folk of your correctness after the event is the very definition of Lennism. ;)
