Hi,

As you may remember I'm the pre-match reporter for the Port Vale Fans Forum One Vale Fan.

Part of my role is to contact fans of our forthcoming opponents to ask them a few questions and gain their views on the upcoming fixture between our sides in order to produce a report which we release on the site a couple of days prior to the game.

I wondered if one or more of you (up to a maximum of 3 due to space constraints) have a few minutes and would kindly be prepared to share a few views / your feelings on the game by answering the following few new questions;

1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan?

2. How do you expect your team to do this season (including a forecast for a positional finish for the entire season)?

3. What are your thoughts on your manager and his signings this season & who should we watch out for (danger players)?

4. What are your thoughts on your board & off field club activities?

5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team?

6. Our fans love to read opposing team’s forums and blogs, any recommendations on these for your team?

7. How do you expect Vale to do this season?

8. What is your team's most memorable game with Vale (good or bad reasons)?

9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides) and what do you expect the attendance to be?

10. Finally can you pass on any decent recommendations for local ‘away friendly pubs’, eateries and the best places to park for our fans travelling to the game?

Please also feel free to include any other information you feel worthy and I will knock it into a report as per the example below regarding contribution from Doncaster fans from a game with them;

To enable me to produce this in good time I need a reply by this Saturday as our editor is on annual leave after this and the report will appear on our website prior to the fixture.

Please also let me know if you would like me to include your name on the article and if you are prepared to share one a photo of yourself we can utilise with the article.

Many thanks for your potential support in this matter.

Best Regards,

REP

1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan?

62 year old watched us a first division regular to todays low point

2. How do you expect your team to do this season (including a forecast for a positional finish for the entire season)?

under CW expect us to finish top 6 minimum

3. What are your thoughts on your manager and his signings this season & who should we watch out for (danger players)?
came in an and had to to start from scratch , hes a blade and feels our pain , top lad

4. What are your thoughts on your board & off field club activities?
no comment

5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team?
we play in the worlds oldest used by a professional club stadium
we have huge support despite our lack of trophies in our lifetime
we eat copious ammounts of chip butties

6. Our fans love to read opposing team’s forums and blogs, any recommendations on these for your team?
bladesmad , its run by lunatics

7. How do you expect Vale to do this season?
6th to 10th as usual

8. What is your team's most memorable game with Vale (good or bad reasons)?
winning 10-0 there which is still our record away win
9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides) and what do you expect the attendance to be?
2-1 win for us 19500 or thereabouts

10. Finally can you pass on any decent recommendations for local ‘away friendly pubs’, eateries and the best places to park for our fans travelling to the game

all our pubs are friendly we are very nice people

1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan?

32 years old. Started following the blades during the magical Bassett revival.

2. How do you expect your team to do this season (including a forecast for a positional finish for the entire season)?

I think after a poor start, we're finding our feet and I fancy us for top 6. I'll go with 4th.

3. What are your thoughts on your manager and his signings this season & who should we watch out for (danger players)?

He's had a big rebuild to do in the summer but seems to have got more right than wrong with the team looking to have improved. Seems to have 3 very good acquisitions in Simon Moore (GK), Ethan Ebanks Landell (CB) and Jack O Connell (CB). Billy Sharp is the obvious danger man along with Matt Done. Paul Coutts' re-emergence in midfield has also been very welcome.

4. What are your thoughts on your board & off field club activities?

Plenty of money. Not a lot of leadership. Spunked huge money on the wrong managers and poor players and sold star players every year to balance the books. At least this time the sales (Adams and Calver-Lewin) weren't integral to the first team and this manager seems a better appointment thus far.

5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team?

We are the first United.

Brian Deane scored the first ever Premier League Goal, Penalty and Brace on the opening day for us in against Man United.

We go to town's to shag their women and drink their beer.

6. Our fans love to read opposing team’s forums and blogs, any recommendations on these for your team?

This one. Blades Mad was good but the adds ruined the functionality of the site meaning it's now a ghost town.

7. How do you expect Vale to do this season?

Not sure how the foreign imports will cope with the cold winter nights. I'll go for 9th.

8. What is your team's most memorable game with Vale (good or bad reasons)?

Losing 1-3 at the lane in the autumn of 1999. That result paved the way for the sacking of then manager Adrian Heath and the resignation of chairman Mike McDonald. That paved the way for the appointment of Neil Warnock which saw us go onto bigger and better things.

9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides) and what do you expect the attendance to be?

1-0 to the blades.

10. Finally can you pass on any decent recommendations for local ‘away friendly pubs’, eateries and the best places to park for our fans travelling to the game?

The Sheffield Tap (in the station). Good beer and always frequented by away fans arriving on the train.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan?
Supported them since I can remember, Been to close to 70 grounds, mainly to see defeats but hey that comes with the territory

2. How do you expect your team to do this season (including a forecast for a positional finish for the entire season)?
Initially mid table, but since the team have gelled probably 3rd and the play offs again. Dreaming of auto though.

3. What are your thoughts on your manager and his signings this season & who should we watch out for (danger players)?
As above worried about the volume of signings (too many). 1st 4 games we suffered for this. But since then the football Blades fans recognise and like is returning and we are making good progress and are on a solid run at the moment. The manager knows what Blades want, he respects it and is trying to get the passion back and make BDTBL a fortress again.

4. What are your thoughts on your board & off field club activities?
Indifferent. While trying to back the board and believing there are reasons for their decisions, it's sometime hard to understand player sales and a seemingly lack of investment, especially considering we a co-owed by a member of the Saudi royal family.

5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team?
Our home ground is affectionately known as BDTBL (Beautiful Down Town Bramall Lane)
We were born in 1889, there were no pig fans in town, and Jack Charlton was dead.
Our ground has hosted an FA Cup match and an England Test match. Only the Kensington Oval can claim the same.

6. Our fans love to read opposing team’s forums and blogs, any recommendations on these for your team?
S2 4su seems the more reserved forum, Blades mad...well it's in the name.

7. How do you expect Vale to do this season?
Mid Table

8. What is your team's most memorable game with Vale (good or bad reasons)?
Has to be the game which ended Dane Whitehouse's Career. Horrendous tackle on my favourite player at the time. No Blades fan will ever forgive Ainsworth for it.

9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides) and what do you expect the attendance to be?
3 -1 win for Blades. Attendance circa 19,000 - closer to 20 with a good following from you boys

10. Finally can you pass on any decent recommendations for local ‘away friendly pubs’, eateries and the best places to park for our fans travelling to the game?
Probably the Globe or Howard near the train station or Sheaf Island on Ecclesall Road

5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team?

1. The Blades were the first professional British football club to tour Bolivia.

2. We once got relegated with a positive goal difference.

3. Bramall Lane is the only sports ground in the country to have hosted the national champions of both football & cricket as well as hosting full England internationals at both sports alongside being an FA Cup Final venue.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself & history as a fan?

44 years old Been following them since 1982. Season ticket holder since 87 Was a regular away supporter as well up to 2009 when I retired from away games.

2. How do you expect your team to do this season (including a forecast for a positional finish for the entire season)?

Thought at first we would finish mid table now with the recent upturn hoping for top six.

3. What are your thoughts on your manager and his signings this season & who should we watch out for (danger players)?

Was unconvinced by the appointment and was worried I was vindicated early on but coming around to him now he looks like he has turned things around. No one individually escpecailly outstanding so far this season with exception of a rejuvenated Paul Coutts pulling the midfield strings. But playing well as a team recently.

4. What are your thoughts on your board & off field club activities?

5. Can you tell us up to 3 quirky things opposing fans might not know about your team?

We are the oldest existing 'United' in football.
Derry City based their home kit on ours as a tribute to Blades & Irish football legend Billy Gillespie.
Englands best Cricketer Joe Root is a huge Blades fan

6. Our fans love to read opposing team’s forums and blogs, any recommendations on these for your team?

This is the only one worth while at the moment, Bladesmad used to be good but has been ruined by the site owners

7. How do you expect Vale to do this season?

Mid table

8. What is your team's most memorable game with Vale (good or bad reasons)?

A last minute Blades win in the 1989/90 season which revived our eventual promotion season when we just looked like throwing it away and letting Newcastle nip in.

9. A score prediction (and potential scorers for both sides) and what do you expect the attendance to be?

2-0 Blades win. Hopefully.

10. Finally can you pass on any decent recommendations for local ‘away friendly pubs’, eateries and the best places to park for our fans travelling to the game?

Howard or the Globe facing the railway station. Or if you like Real ales the Sheffield Tap at the railway station itself (however no team colours allowed in that pub, civies only)

Number 8.

Most memorable moment.

Last season my 6 year old son crying his eyes out and being shit scared after half the home support came round the back of the away end at Vale Park and bricked the away supporters.

Horrible club, vile fans, i bet most of them wouldn't dare say boo to a goose when they come to Bramall Lane. Cowards

Similar ,spending a weekend in Leek Cop shop with 13 others from my minibus ( the other 3 were in Stoke nick on separate charges) No charges against any of us because the offence was theft off a charity box from a pub ,but they found it on a local. However we had gone on the wrong end and it kicked off big time as it always does in Stoke and we were escorted across the pitch to the Utd end past the dugouts ,Steve Neville was sub and made some clever arsed remark and nearly got a crack from one or two. My mum saw us on Sunday football so I got a bollocking from that too. When we got back to the van after it was like the wild west ,proper scrapping and as we got in the van there was someone new in the passenger seat ,we all thought he was a mate of someone else and he just watched the fighting until we were all on. The driver said are we all on ,the new passenger gave a thumbs up to a copper outside who got in and other coppers put locks on all the doors ,the plain clothes cop (our new friend) took over driving and took us to Leek nick where we were held all night with just a semi blown up Wembley trophy in the prison yard for company. Between interviews woodseats beat Norfolk park :)
Also sat with 4 Vale fans on the plane to the Euros this summer ,3 great lads , one dick ,seems about right for Port Vale.

Although you’re justifiably angry about what happened, we can’t tar them all with the same brush. The OP has clearly come on here in good faith. It would be easy to hate the club for Ainsworth alone but I’m not going down that route.

Another bad memory of Vale is boxing day a couple of seasons ago. Took around 8 hours to get back to Sheffield through the snow and the car got stuck at Handsworth so we had to stay with a relative and head home the next day.
