Took Balham Jnr Snr (7) to his first proper away game today. He hated it because there weren’t any goals.

Anyway, for what it’s worth it was a game we can be a bit disappointed to have not come away with three points from yet we could equally have lost it. A draw is probably fair.

Ratings:
Cooper 8 - two colossal saves in the first half and stood tall despite the obvious Pompey tactics at set pieces targeting him

Gilchrist 7 - solid. Not much attacking threat but up against a decent Championship winger in Murphy
Souttar 7 - also solid. One slip nearly let them in but he recovered to pressure the mistake
Ahmedhodzic 7 - third solid performance across the back four. One lapse in concentration aside he was imperious
Burrows 7 - left defending against two a lot of the time with Hamer drifting off the wing in front of him but did well. Targeted by Norris’s long goal kicks but only lost one header, albeit one which led to a really good Portsmouth chance
Vini Souza 7 - broke up play, got stuck in, pirouetted out of trouble deep in our half and got his customary booking. Not entirely sure what he was kicking off about at the end?
Peck 7 - different game to his debut with Portsmouth packing the midfield and an experienced operator in Pack to contend with but he always showed for the ball and we carried a threat from his corners
Rak-Sakyi 8 - got their left back booked after a minute and had him on toast after that. Couldn’t find the final pass but hopefully that understanding will come
O’Hare 4 - this may seem harsh but he wasn’t at it. Gave away possession too easily either through a lack of strength or loose passing and he’s definitely not quick. Clearly talented so will have better days but today wasn’t great
Hamer 6 - at the heart of a lot of our good attacks but also loose in possession at times. Went close with a freekick and had a header clawed off the line by Norris
Moore 4 - isolated, slow, laborious, clumsy…it’s not working for him at the moment

Subs
Brewster 7 - showed good strength in the last seconds to win the ball then feed Seriki for a run which was chopped short and set up Campbell for our second best chance. Encouraging.
Brooks 5 - seemed isolated. Had one cut in and shot but dragged it well wide
Seriki 6 - not much to report
Campbell 6 - put himself about, had a decent effort saved by the outstretched leg of Norris. Moore’s complete lack of form may open the door for him to start soon

Ref: abysmal.

Pompey fans: loud. Great atmosphere pretty much throughout

Pompey: they’re a bit creaky at the back and they didn’t carry much of an attacking threat but they’re solid and organised. They should be good for 15th-20th.

Staggeringly Good Brewery: not quite staggeringly good but decent nonetheless

Amazing that people just jump on Moore's back whilst he's at the strikers graveyard
And now people are lamenting over McPub and the ten goals or whatever it was he scored over four seasons for us

Brewster £23 million because he scored goals elsewhere at this level
McPub £17 million because he scored goals elsewhere at this level
Archer will be worth £20 million if he is sold because he scored goals elsewhere at this level
Mousett £10 million because he scored goals at a higher level than this
Callum Robinson £9 million because he scored goals at this level

How many more times does it have to happen before people realise something just isn't right with our attacking play

I do think you were a bit generous to Souza and peck who I thought weren't very good, gave the ball away plenty and looked undisciplined. I thought Rak sakyi was better than other games but still not offering enough for an 8 for me.

Defence and keeper was good. Id bump Souttar to an 8 given how much he had to win in the air today.

Moore is very good at taking the ball in and holding it up whilst players catch up and he's worth his place on Defensive headers alone
Ohare seems to have lost his way a bit ,personally I'd try hamer with gus and push a front 3 of Brooks, rak-sakyi and Campbell later in a game
I'd love to see us find that diamond centre forward in January just to push us on
Plus a centre half

Moore is isolated up front and has 2 to 3 defenders to deal with all the tine. By having 4 at the back and 5 in midfield we are proving defensively solid but lacking in numbers up the pitch.

This was illustrated by Rak Satki constantly getting to the bye line but having nobody to hit in the middle as Moore had 2 or 3 crowding him out.

This is going to be Wilders biggest challenge, playing our current formation and I'd be tempted to play Hamer in the middle and as a very high 10 if we aren't going with 2 up front

Don't think Moore will ever get many goals for us, I'm not sure any striker would, but we saw at Preston that he's good at holding the ball up with his back to goal and bringing in other players. If he contributes in this way I don't care who scores the goals.

Course it is, please explain why good goal getters suddenly stop getting goals the minute they sign for Sheffield United, both me and the others who agree with me would like to know what you're take on it is.

It's just stupid

I think the players just turned up yesterday & expected it to happen , i think we really missed Arblaster yesterday pulling the strings in the middle of the park . Defensively we were reasonably solid , with 2 excellent saves from Cooper .
The midfield just sat a little too deep for me , we are very reliant on O’Hare being the No 10 behind Moore and he had a an off day today . Hamer , Vini & Peck all did ok but for me but as said were sat too deep . The times we did work an opportunity we fell back into old habits of trying to walk the ball into the back of the net .
Rak Sakyi looked like he was gonna be our best creative outlet but similar to Brooks this season does all the hard work but then lacks the composure at the vital times for the killer pass.
Up top Moore again yesterday looked isolated until Brewster came on . It’s a game we could have equally won or lost for that matter , fair play to Pompey they certainly had a go and on another occasion would have won , they are good workman like team but lack individual quality , where we have players with that quality but for me took the safe option yesterday .
I would probably have took the point beforehand & we’re still unbeaten , but just got a tinge of disappointment from yesterday.
We’re still work in progress with the new players & solid defensively , but it’s the other end of the pitch we need to do some work on if we want to be in the mix at the end of the season ⚔️

Part of the plan has to get support for Moore it's crying out for it.
I think Wilder is trying to keep everybody happy(players) at the moment and that has to change! O'hare is not getting forward to support Moore so that has to change be it him or a player able to do that ! No doubt Brewster or Campbell or a shift for Hamer.l like O'hare ! Just not got the pace to support a loan striker he works hard for the team so not direct criticism of him.
Maybe Wilder being over cautious in these early season matches No doubt it is effecting our chances and goals ratio! Think again Chris! Very frustrating watch at present! What do I know !
sitting 6th averaging over 2 points a game forgetting the 2 knocked off.
Moore must be getting a bit frustrated too.

Raj- Sakyi- agree but he did deliver 3 great passes crosses the best leading to Hamers header - no doubt if he stays injury free with a few more games he will be different gravy

You took your son to a brewery ?
Yep. They do sell things other than beer. He had an apple juice and we shared an enormous portion of pretty good paprika fries: ketchup on his half, mayo on mine.

We went in firstly because he needed to use the facilities and I assumed (wrongly, as it transpired) that the ones in the ground wouldn’t be fit for humans.

Keep your condescension to yourself next time please.

Played out of position, asked too much of, doesn't suit our play..
Regardless, it's not working for Moore. I'm not writing him off, I'm not even blaming him, but he's not doing enough.

Agree with this. Didn’t see the game today but I thought he led the line really well against Derby and his hold-up play is outstanding.
Problem is when he looks for a partner to pass it too there’s no one there.
