What we going to do if billy plays in the next 2 games, and doesn’t score. Thats all the amount of games we’re giving the one he’s going to replace. I’m a billy supporter, and I know some changes are needed, but where does it end. 1st goal scorer wins, the positions yours, at least until s24su decide we need another change.

If Sharp starts two matches and doesnt score then give Clarke another chance.

You can't say fairer than that.

Or better still, play Clarke and Sharp.

That would be a bit unfair on McGoldrick at this stage though.

Its not just scoring its putting in a shift. McG does that, Clarke does bugger all.

I don't think McG and Sharp will work as a pairing. I doubt he'll drop McG. We'll see. I can see with us going one up-top and that basically means Leon.

I wonder if the third highest goal scorer in the English leagues this millennium should start more games...

This is as straightforward as the Duffy thread, the answer is yes.

Or should be anyway

Sharp has the best shot conversion record in the division. He may be the wrong side of 30, he may be a yard slower these days, but if you get the ball to him in the box stats say he'll put 1 in 2 chances in the net. I'm surprised nobody has come in for him TBH.

I would go with the radical approach of trusting CW and AK to use their experience to assess the players in training and decide who they feel would do best against the opposition they are facing?

Sadly, if anyone comes in for him, it will be a L1 side or someone like Rotherham at best.

As a non-moron, I obviously voted yes, in contrast with those who wish Sheffield United to fail because despising Billy Sharp is more important.

Don’t let the odd person with a different opinion on sharp influence your judgement on all blades..

He’s very popular you know.. see the vote if you’re uncertain in what I’m saying..

I’d have Duffy in behind Woodburn and Leon.

Leon is most suited to that role.

I’m a little disappointed with the backlash coming his way.

Cost 125k, had a strong end to his first season, scored more goals from open play than any Championship striker last year.

He’s been involved in 2 sub par performances where the entire starting XI to a man has been pretty shit and the knives are out. These two were also against two of the better resourced teams.

If he’s played 10 and scored none and is not putting effort in by then, fine, but for now, I’d say we support the guy and give him some confidence.

Billy will have to wait his turn. There is a case for Woodburn and Duffy because they played well when they came on. For Billy the case isn’t there yet. He ran around a bit to no great effect vs Swansea. Just has to wait for a formation change or Leon dropping out. For now Leon is probably the most fitting choice especially if both Woodburn and Duffy are to be accomodated. Brooks and Clarke provided our greatest attacking display at the Sty last year. Let’s see what Woodburn and Clarke can do.

Leon may not have become a bad player overnight but the case for Sharp over Woodburn and McGoldrick, based on last season and this, is strong.

My concern with Sharp is that I don’t see him as the lone striker type. If both Woodburn and Duffy have done enough then where does Sharp squeeze in? Unless Woodburn can play deeper instead of Evans then have Sharp up top with Clarke/McGoldrick. It’s not clear what Woodburn’s desired position is. For now I’m just assuming he’s a Brooks-a-like.

No, it's hard to tell what to do with Woodburn.

TBH, I prefer Sharp in the side, but if we play Clarke, Duffy and Woodburn that is still an improvement on what we've been going with so far. The key is sorting out that midfield.

Because he's close to past it. He'll be on a decent wage, what team is going to want to pay his wages when they might get a season maybe two, out of him.

Duffy in for lundstram is the only change needed

Perhaps drop Stevens too
