In regard to last nights game v Arsenal I noticed a distinct lack of police prescence on the walk up to the ground from the train station and near the ground
I got into Midland station around 4.20pm not a single officer on the forecout of the station or outside the Howard there is usually some coppers knocking about. The same up near Decathalon not a single copper or riot van in sight. There was about 30 Arsenal fans giving it the big one near Fannys no Police around and the same in the St Marys Gate underpass
Contrast that to last season in the Championship there was always plenty of Police / Riot vans at Midland station and near Fannys in Decathalon car park also in the underpass. You was not allowed to even stand outside Fannys for some games and the Police around there and Decathalon was sometimes complete over kill. Our friends from Durham Constabulary must be looking at their wage slips and bemoaning the lack of overtime they used to get from being on duty at the Lane
Cant understand it being so different

I walked straight through the Gooners trying to give Fannys the big one.

Right set of degenerates. Said to two of them if they really wanted it they should continue going off like that for a bit longer until they reached the underpass.

They seemed to prefer bouncing around giving it from a distance to the OAPs outside the Nelson though 😆

I'm a big believer that the more police presence you have the more likely you're gonna get trouble. We've all seen when away fans are escorted to whatever ground it is and it gives the protection they need to be more abusive.

We obviously need some police but its good to see its less noticeable in my view.

Perhaps the Durham mob are in Barcelona or Hong Kong?

Official SYP policy - ‘Arsenal? Give over’.

What are you trying to say I was outside Fannys :)
It really upset me when they startted singing 'Youre just a shit Sheffield W********y'

So nobody got hit by a prawn sandwich? Disappointed in that Arsenal mob.

If you read my OP properly it is about the lack of Policing now we are in the PL compared to the over kill that occurred for some games in the Championship
Read the post !!!
Vs Liverpool there were officers tooled up with Automatic Rifles in the BP Garage forecourt ........

Didn't the police say in the summer they were going to try and do it differently.

I get that. But the worst I’ve seen this season has been my 15 year old daughter getting hit in some Blade v Blade shite on John Street after a game, coke headed little teenaged wankers who will be taken care of. Lets not create a problem where there isn’t one, the atmospheres at games have been good. Do you want or think we need a big police presence?

Something in between
There should be some police prescence around Decathalon / Fannys as that is a route away fans can take when coming from the Station / Howard and is a potential flashpoint there are children that go in thet pub as well
We don t want the overkill that happened in the Championship that was ridiculous but to go from that to zero
is baffling. I know things seem to be more relaxed in the PL which is good but trouble can still happen
Saying that there is supposed to be a big police prescence at West Ham on Saturday

Yep. Their sometimes antagonistic behaviour it could be argued, is designed to incite, justifying the need for their regular presence. It did seem low key on Bramall Lane on Monday night. Despite a few Arsenal fans on the BLUT, I didn't see any issues. Still think it's shit having away fans in our end mind.

Interesting that Leeds v Birmingham had the West Yorks police claiming that it was the “worst trouble for a decade” after the game.

Then just a few days later PNE v Leeds had nearly 5.5k of Leeds fans and zero arrests or bother for the Police to get excited about.

Nowadays it really does depend on the fixture. Are the SYP starting to wise up to this? I really hope so.

I can’t say that I noticed a police presence at all on Monday, which is always what you want. It’s a game of football ffs, have a drink and enjoy it or drown your sorrows after rather than trying to twat someone.

It doesn’t mean that the game needs sanitising and we’ll have games with extra policing, but most fans are well behaved.

SYP have made it extremely obvious over the last couple of years that they believe that they are essential to every football game. They have a political agenda to earn more cash from football as they see it as a cash cow.

Sad news for them is that less appears to be more with policing.

Preston is one of my favourite away days.

Tranmere and Grimsby are close second.
