Plenty of positives today

I thought Burke had a good game today and was a threat. It is the first time I have been impressed with him and I certainly wouldn't play him on Saturday, but at least today I have thought maybe there could be a decent player in there somewhere.
Buy a road map. Buy a sat nav. Buy a tracking device. Hire a detective. Get a bloodhound. Look in every nook and cranny you can think of. AND YOU STILL WONT FIND A DECENT PAYER IN THERE!!!!!

I’m happy to leave the jury out on Guedioura, and to accept I might have seen it wrong tonight. It’s one game, anyway.

I’m stunned that anyone would argue that Robinson’s game isn’t mistake ridden, and suggest he’s being scapegoated. I find that suggestion a bit bizarre to be honest.
You're stunned? I said he did ok and made one particularly important tackle. I didn't say he had a blinder. Also I would suggest the definition of a player that is being scapegoated is that you look for and focus on the mistakes and conveniently forget any positive contributions they made because it doesn't suit the agenda of the majority.

Nonetheless, you did suggest that Robinson was being made a scapegoat -whereas for me, and everyone I speak to, he's just mistake prone, and costing us dearly when he plays. In no way, by my definition, is he being made a scapegoat.

So yes, I'm stunned that apparently some people would consider that he is. :)

I'm not denying it, however you seem to be proving my definition, in that I reckon that you and those you speak to are waiting for him to make a mistake and that's what you focus on.... so what would your definition be?

We've seen it all before, Gannon, McEveley.... even Bobby Booker until he became a 'cult' figure instead, and Robinson is no different. While I'm not suggesting for one minute that he hasn't made any mistakes and neither do I think he should be in the starting 11 on current form, I just thought he did ok last night, especially when you consider he was playing in a back four that has not really played together as a back four, Stevens has literally just returned from quite a lay off, and they were playing against very fast and tricky opponents.

I don't see how I am. He's mistake prone - it was spotted by most and I think I gave him the benefit of the doubt longer than most. Nonetheless, reality bit for me- he just makes too many mistakes, and isn't good enough to rectify them. And, true to form, he made a significant mistake last night that nearly went punished again. His general game was otherwise okay, but once again he confirmed my (most fans?) fears.

I don't see how pointing that out makes him a scapegoat in any way at all. I'd say the more reactionary argument would be using the scapegoat tag on those who point it out.

Made the 200 mile round trip to see the game last night and really pleased I did, what a cracking game of football, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Say what you want about Burke but the Saints defence shat themselves every time he was played through. He may not have the end product but he gets into dangerous positions and makes things happen....even if it does end up in some exercise for the ball-boys!

I thought Bash was good, same with Enda and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top between him and RND going forward, nowt like a bit of healthy competition! Robinson I trust about as much as Glitter in a school yard and again last night on several occasions he just about got away with things, Enda was pinging at him a couple of times in the second half. Probably the biggest disappointment for me last night was Bogle, i thought he was shocking.

Midfield wise, Norwood had a great game and will be pushing to get in ahead of Hourihane at the weekend. Freeman was busy but not necessarily effective and Osborn was considerably better in the second half. Guedoria was OK, needs to get up to match fitness.

Ndaiye was brilliant first half and should have scored, tired badly and cramped up again but that's probably just getting used to the pace of first team football....to be honest i was surprised he played, i thought Slav may have saved him for Derby.

Oli Mac was a handful all night and hopefully the goal will give him a boost, beautiful finish. Brewster was Brewster, I think he just tries too hard and ends up looking lost.

That save by Wes in 86th minute if that was by an international goalkeeper people would be banging on about that. I still don't know how he managed it from my view he looked like it was in even after he got his hand to it. Strong hands!

And especially when they have had a lengthy period of playing no football at all because of a contract dispute.
It now seems unbelievable that we'd isolate him due to a contract dispute! Just imagine if it had continued and we'd missed out on him

I wasn't going to reply again because I realise if I do, this will go on and on and on........
However, against my better judgment, I've noted that in all your posts on this thread, you haven't said one positive thing about any of the players, never mind poor old 'mistake ridden' Jack Robinson so I retract my statement about you scapegoating anyone and will revise that to say you don't seem to have a good thing to say about any of them.

I'm not sure what you were expecting in a game between our 2nd string and Southampton's - perhaps nothing less than a resounding 5-0 win would have satisfied you?

Anyway I really enjoyed the game and thought that overall it was a brave performance, if nothing else. I hope you enjoyed it too. UTB.

I wasn’t impressed by many last night. I accept that, judging by the responses on here, I’m in a very small minority there.

None if this has anything to do with Robinson, who is clearly not good enough for where we want to be, yet you are hell bent on describing such analysis as scapegoating.

It seems to me you’d have had a much better argument if you’d picked up on my lack of excitement about other players last night.

I stand by my assertion that your “scapegoat” stance regarding Robinson is frankly bizarre.
