Miles better than Long

Seriously are you for real?!?!?!?!

I know we all have our different opinions but come on, this is Steve Simonsen we're talking about and what makes you think he was better than Long well you must be living in a different galaxy!

Yes Long has had bad spells of performances but so does every keeper, but in Long's case you've got to expect it because how many keepers are put into the first team at such a young age? He was about 18 or 19 when he made his debut and that is a rare age to be consistently in the starting 11 for a keeper, for him to improve and gain experience he's got to make mistakes hasn't he or he wouldn't otherwise. Also its not his fault that this club hasn't rectified this area by going out and signing a decent keeper while we've been in L1, instead deciding to rely on a complete academy prospect who certainly hasn't been terrible to say the least.

Living in a different galaxy to think a vastly more experienced, more vocal keeper is better than Long? I'm not blaming Long at all for playing, I'm just saying he's awful.

Regardless of how experienced and vocal he was, he was a calamity of a goalkeeper and only became worse and carried it on for Rangers!

Do we all watch a match differently . I am not a big lover of Long , but come on , Long may well be a disaster waiting to happen , Simmonson was a disaster . Saw him play for Rangers in the north midland league equivalent and he was awful .

No comparison here at all , and unfair to George Long , who if he is to be our No 1 , then he needs our backing not ridicule , never mind how poor we think he is .

Wilder will make the decision on the goalkeeper , who is important as Billy.

Fuck me Simmo was shite in the championship and league 1 .

UTB

In league one he was a regular in a team that got 90 points.

John Ryan came with a big reputation and scored a screamer against Rotherham........but sod all else.

And let 51 goals in. Remember also that calamitous Oldham game where he single-handedly gave Oldham the points and was directly responsible for taking out 3 of our back 4 for the next match, Walsall away, which we lost.

I seem to remember he also contributed to the play off final too.

Single handedly cost us the points? Lowton threw the ball away and got a second yellow seeing him get sent off. Maquire committed a professional foul, got sent off and conceded a penalty. Can you please explain how these are in any way the fault of the goalkeeper?

He missed a penalty in play off final. Hes a goalkeeper. Prior to that, he made an unbelievable save onto the bar to keep us in the final and actually get us to penalties. And oh yeah, he saved the first penalty putting us in a great position.

It was Simmo's fuck up that led to McGuire being put in the position whereby he gave the penalty away and Collins (?) getting injured. He was the most effective striker Oldham had that day and continued to be the biggest threat to our goal all season. We let 51 goals in with a central defence of Collins and McGuire that was excellent (Hudders away, remember?). United have more often than not had decent keepers during my time but Simmo, while not being the worst, certainly gets an honourable mention.

And yes he missed a penalty, directly after Hudders goalie had tucked one away quite expertly. And he didn't just miss it did he? He really did MISS it!!

Why was it Simmo's fault their striker was clean through? Why was it Simmo's fault Lowton got sent off? What happened with Simmo was that he was doing very well, made some good saves and considering we were absolutely smashing teams to bits, no-one really cared if we let in the odd goal. See Notts county 2-5 blades Rochdale 2-5 Bladees for example. He then had a rough spell where he kept coming for stupid crosses (Leyton orient away) and got dropped for Long. People then saw how awful Long was and he was straight back in.

Let's just agree to differ, Jehovah. I think he was crap, you appear not to. My memory tells me one thing, yours has a different perspective. Fair enough.:)

Matthew Kilgallon

A crucial part of our squad for quite a while, then as soon as he saw a big money move, he took the absolute piss out of us with his gash performances and general couldn't care less attitude.

Detest the bloke, right up there with Slew and McNulty as my most hated player.
100% agree. He is worse than anyone. Whenever I have seen other players touted for a move, at least they kept playing. The number of challenges he pulled out from pnce he had the potential move was beyond belief. It made me feel like going to knobble him myself.
Belongs in the Twats thread. Self centered Mercenary bastard.
