Players who should have played higher up or for a better side?

I always thought if someone was willing to put the trust and work (as well as himself) into getting fit then Lee Trundle could've performed at Premiership level.

Someone mentioned Gabbiadini, the other striker that always seemed to fill his boots against us ..........

....... Kevin Drinkell

That Italian striker at Wednesday, Bryan Hughes at Birmingham, Huckerby looked bang average in the Premier League but was immense in the Championship for Man City, Forest and Norwich. David Healy and Jon Macken tore us apart at Deepdale and I thought they had the best strike force back in 01. Recently, Jordan Rhodes probably sums it up.

He didn't really get enough of a chance before his career was ended, but I remember thinking Ben Doane could have gone on to be a good player for us.

He actually did spend his career in the Premiership, so perhaps it doesn't count, but everytime I saw Tugay play for Blackburn he was awesome (despite rarely leaving the centre circle).

Easier to remember strikers and mudfielders who were favourites but just recalled a CB who I saw playing at 18 for Stevenage and had a young Lee Hughes ,who all the spotlight was on, in his back pocket all game...he went on to have a long career in league 1 and 2 with a number of clubs but I reckoned he couldve at least stepped up to championship level and then maybe higher. Played internationally for Nigeria.

The Bandanna Man.. Effy Sodje

None of them, other than those whose careers were cut short by injury. Football is pretty meritocratic and if you're consistently good enough, you'll play at a high level. If your form is patchy, or you're lazy, or you flatter to deceive, you get found out.

Steve Kabba and Paul Ifill were outstanding in the championship (Ifill moreso for Millwall than for us) but neither could get a sniff in the premier league.

Shipperly seemed to be a player that always helped teams get to the Prem but then get dumped when they got there.

Alan Kelly was a truly superb 'keeper who could have surely done a good job for one of the very top clubs.

Liam O'Brien for Tranmere in the 90s. They were on the verge of promotion to the Premiership for a few seasons. O'Brien passing range was magnificent. Had a spell at Man U, when he was young, which did not work out. Some players don't hit their peak until later in their careers, may have been what stopped Colin Morris playing at a higher level....always wondered if David Holdsworth could have stepped up, always one of the classiest centre half in the Championship...
