Has to be michael brown everytime i play footy with my mates am always either trying to do his incredible volley against pigs or going in for the good tackle winning ball while other player ends up on ground
Or peschisolido by trying the little tricks he did before scoring dummy shots etc

As a 6'2" centre half, I had the Vinnie Jones 'V' shaved into the back of my hair to make me look hard.
I just ended up looking the same 6'2" soft as s**t centre half but with a twat of a haircut :(

Trouble is last set of players were under the influence;)

Just after Woody past away I approached Jim Phipps doing his PR walkabout outside the players entrance at the back of the south stand. I asked when Woody's statue is being comissioned and that he was one of the reasons why we are so well supported today. I was amazed when he said they would consider a statue of Woody, TC and Eddie Colquhoun together when the other 2 pass away. Doh! . . . . another JP foot in mouth moment.

I remember trying to copy the way Tony Kenworthy walked when I was about 15 ,I had a bumfluff moustache and hairstyle to go too. I had previously been Eddie Shoestring and then Stuart Adamson came on the scene and that was it for years. Now I get my moves off Peter Griffin.

Sammon- well i didn't try it just happened.

I always tried to be CHRIS MORGAN, and Jamie Ward.

Colin Addison and his ability to play a cross-field ball by using the outside of the foot to bend it around any opposition players in the way. John Tudor with his use of neck muscles to head the ball like a rocket from a floated a cross. Len Badger and his way of killing a high lofted ball by bringing it down off his thigh to lay motionless at his feet. A skill that is never seen nowadays. Needless to say I couldn't emulate any of this.

Must be Neill Collins, as I get the ball deep, turn, see that I'm being closed down and, inevitably, pass the ball back to the keeper or full back.

Although I always wanted to be Peschisolido at 12 years old. I suppose I succeeded slightly, every time I manage to score a goal the shirt comes off and I run around screaming "Oh my God!"

John Ebbrell - cos I'm absolutely ---- after about 15 minutes!

When I was a bit fitter Borbokis bombing down the right wing. Had the white away shirt with his name on the back as well...

Vas Borbokis
Carl 'Put him on the kop' Bradshaw

A mix of culture, grit, class and heart.

I just got the heart bit though

Tony Currie. I know, I know. But before I became a regular keeper I rated myself as a midfielder and amongst the crap I played with at that time I suppose I wasn't too bad. Bit of time on the ball, stroke it about a bit, a quick Cruyff type turn and lay off. One Saturday we played a team from Dorking that had a kid in it who had been a Crystal Palace Reserve (This is either 1975 or 1978). Apart from leaving a three inch scar down my shin from a crafty back heel as I stood behind him, he lead me a right ta ta for 30 mins until I couldn't breathe. Taught me the difference between pros and us mere mortals.

I
Got to be George best, soon as I got the ball, no thoughts on passing to anyone, just try and beat everyone until I lost the ball. Nothing like George really, more Tony fields.
I was like George Best too!

Brilliant and bolloxed all the time. Well, the second parts right anyway.

In my mind spraying the ball about like TC, drawing a tackle & dragging the ball back & spinning around like Ian Ross and bringing it down on the thigh or chest from the keepers clearance and picking out the top corner from 30 yards like John Ryan.

In reality, spraying snot from running around like a pillock, getting crunched by some twat after trapping the ball further than Woody could kick it & fetching the ball from bottom of Rutland Road from Parkwood Springs pitches after whacking it with all my might.

I would love to be able to strike a ball like Woody, or play inch-perfect 30 or 40 yard passes like TC.
I used to be able to run for 90 minutes, but old age has put paid to that as well!
These days I'm limited to assists on the 5-a-side pitch.

In the 90s I used to model myself on Brian Gayle, Paul Beesley, Doug Hodgson and David Holdsworth, and a bit later Chris Morgan. I've always played centre half as I'm not skilful, but I'm tall, strong and commanding in the air, and I might not be able to do a lot of things with a football, but I've always been good enough to tackle and stop others,

Colin Morris, I even used to try and walk bow legged........and Kevin "The Architect" Arnott, now he could spray a pass...

Bit of a tangent but did anyone have a goal celebration. I scored quite a few in the sunday leagues but don't think I ever properly celebrated one properly ,was always a mouthy mardy bastard but when I scored a became a bit shy and reserved I suppose so a quiet yes ,a handshake and a walk back to the half way line was as far as it went.

Although TC was my hero, a player who I admired was Alan Ball. I realise he hasn't always been popular with Blades but I always tried to play with the same non-stop energy. Remember getting his autobiography from the library 'Ball Of Fire', how he explained his father Alan Ball Senior used to make him practice over and over. It built up a strong work ethic.

When I was a kid I used to run everywhere just to try and build up my stamina. Run down to shops to buy Shoot magazine or a Green 'Un on a Saturday night. I used to time myself by counting (not exactly accurate admittedly) and then try and beat that figure the next time.

Now I'm in my early sixties, work some ridiculous hours but can keep going. Unlike some half my age. I like to think it was that early discipline that's paid off.

I should say Monty - I remember playing on a very sloping pitch in a cup match at Longley . It was against a team in the division above. We were kicking downhill and our keeper kicked it out of his hands. The ball landed near the centre circle and I went to trap it with my back to their goal. Needless to say I made a complete bollocks of it and missed the ball completely, but inadvertently back-heeled it in the air over their keeper (who had gone to sleep expecting to win 10-0) and into the goal. We won the match 2-1 but didn't get to celebrate (or even changed) because their supporters chased us all the way down Firth Park, Happy Days :D

Simon Tracey, i used to keep with my arms pointing slightly backwards and also had the Simon Tracey sondico gloves which had little suction pads on.
I had those. I was made up when buying my new gloves for the season and he had his name on a pair.

Nah. Had Reusch but not because of Schmeichel. Played some games in Germany in the mid eighties and they were light years ahead of what I could then get in the UK. Then again so were the teams we played!

They were good but as a lad I just had to buy the Tracey sondico ones. I associate Reusch with German or French keepers who wore enormous gloves that were a bit like Kenny Everret hands. Marseilles (the Papin/Pele/Waddle version) keeper was a stand out for this and coupled it with a short sleeved shirt the flash Harry. Light years away from me standing in a puddle, shivering, on some rec or other across South Yorkshire.
