Got a lot of quality in this squad who are seriously underperforming this season, especially the ones who are too good to be benched.

Be interesting to see how many improve under the next manager, as I think it's becoming obvious that as each game goes by, more of them look like they don't want to play for Selles anymore and are trying to get him out.

Like O.P said, it doesn't excuse the faults that lie at Selles' door, but there's no excuse for players to be putting in performances like that.

I’m not sure if it’s as simple as them ALL downing tools. For example Peck looked gutted every time we conceded.
I think they don’t believe in the way the manager is setting them up and once we go behind a few of them revert back to what they think is best. The result is disjointed and that’s why we look so dreadful.
Having said that a few clearly don’t look like they care about the badge yet.

You're right, but people underestimate the mental side of the game. If you're unhappy, disillusioned, unsure of your role or genuinely just gutted that you thought you had a good thing going and had the rug pulled from under you - it will affect your performances.

Some players are more mentally strong than others but I don't think there are many that would play to the same levels in this situation. Selles and/or the board have created that environment.

Having said that it's no excuse for players to just give up. That 5th goal where Godfrey let Clarke score for example, was unforgivable.

When Godfrey gave up on the fifth goal my piss was at boiling point. As a Sheffield United fan you expect a few mailings but if they’ve given everything I can totally accept that. You’ll get beaten by better teams, no disgrace in that. But to not even TRY. What an arsehole. I, like thousands of others, pull my tubes out every week at work to pay for a season ticket. Ax Chris Wilder says. 100% commitment should be a given. If you’re not understanding a system, you ask questions, you work on it. You don’t down tools like a petulant twat if things don’t go your way. I hope some of the players have a good look in the mirror today but I wouldn’t bank on it. Some of them have the mental fortitude of a lump of dry dog shit.

Whatever their reasons for throwing the towel in from minute one of the season starting my only take away is that the club and us the supporters don't mean anything to them
I suppose I was naive to think it did but it's going to be very difficult from here on in to fall for any badge kissing or contrived acts of togetherness

The players obviously have no respect for the manager, subsequently they do not go the extra yard and will therefore not win matches whilst ever he is at the club.

When players are all shouted at in training and not treat like the prima donna's they believe themselves to be their reaction is to fight against it. The management lost the players a few weeks ago.
Under Wilder there was an arm around the shoulder, the players aren't following the instructions and are getting called out.
Player power gets managers sacked, whether or not that's fair on the supporters that travel miles and spend hundreds of pounds is down to opinion.
They have a duty as paid professionals to be professional, it's impossible that they suddenly can't play they are choosing not too.

Or the other way of looking at it, is that Selles system and way of management doesn't suit them at all.

I don't see how it means they don't care about the club at all, if a new manager comes in and they start to improve.

I wouldn't label all of them as a disgrace. Some have shown that they do try. Peck Matos, O'Hare Tanganga do put in an effort.
Losing games regularly will have effects on individuals. Some, like Peck and O'Hare will try to do too much and get caught out. Others will lose confidence and others will engage in a blame game while others will down tools.

But for me the biggest issue is how we set up. 433. Our wingers being inverted but even when they cut inside there is no urgency. So we don't create clear cut chances. Our high press is less effective when Cannon does not chase so you end up with O'Hare and Matos pushing up but then leaving gaps in midfield.
We defend too narrow giving their wide players time on the ball to do what they want. McGuiness is pushing up too far and putting himself out of position when they counter.

A lot of the squad we have should have more experience in men’s football before being chucked in the deep end with the first team, Brooks, Peck, One, Matos are all under 23 we are also using 2 loans spots to help build minute's for players we won’t see again such as Barry and Bindon again both under 23. mcguinness is only 24 and Seriki is 23. There isn’t much experience between that lot. Tanganga looks like he does care but we need some experience in the side and need to develop the partnership of Tanganga and Mee if we go with a back 3 then so be it but not to blame the young ones too much but their lack of experience is showing and having a coach that doesn’t have the experience doesn’t help. With the youth in this Squad I would be tempted with Gareth Southgate in a DoF role bring in who you like as head coach manager but he runs the development of football both the academy and building experience. We need to replace One with Ings on the bench and get One out on loan to bring on development.

Selles is vastly out of his depth, so I can slightly excuse poor performances, as it could be down to tactics and directions etc. What’s inexcusable is the lack of effort.

Manager of course has to take significant blame.
The Owners have been dreadful with slow decision making and transfers (once again)
Fans jeering RND off the pitch in the 1st game of the season set the tone for these last 6 games.

For many reasons talked about at length, Selles is clearly not right for the job. I think most people on whatever side you are/have been would now agree on that.

But I agree 100% that some of these “professional” footballers have far from covered themselves in glory. It’s been 3 months of a new manager, not 18 months hard labour in a prison camp.

I’m afraid if they (not all of them) react like his every time a manager they like moves on, or when a new one they don't immediately buy into comes in, then in a business famed for manager turnovers, they're going to be spending a LOT of their careers dragging their bottom lips around.

Spot on. Even before their first goal we were being torn apart down that flank. Anyone with a functioning footballing brain cell could see Godfrey needed someone to back him up.

And what did Selles do? Nowt.
