Congrats to Morgs - well deserved. But when Cressy smites home his hattrick at Hillsborough it'll all be academic. :)

I thought it was interesting that Blackwell got a half decent round of applause after his speech though hardly whooping and cheering! McCabes applause was VERY muted. He tried to gee up the supporters, but really they weren't having it. Also, the attendance at this do is usually around the 220 mark and tickets sold out weeks before. Couldn't have been more than a hundred there. Obviously the players had no say in whether they went or not, but there were 25 players attending, didn't realise we had that many!

Personally I think Morgan has had a poor season this year; particularly by his (high) standards. I think he has been uncharacteristically sloppy, has been at fault for many goals and has really struggled in several different centre back partnerships. He's also missed quite a few games with injuries and suspension.

This brings up the question, 'well who would you have ahead of him?' Well erm ...... Captain Blade? Jamie Ward was fantastic at times, but has been crocked. Same goes for Williamson, but on a lesser level. Walker was up there but left in Janaury. Monty has been playing well of late, but earlier in the season he was uncharacteristically poor. Bunn must have been a contender, but he's not even a United players and has gone back to his club. Cresswell has been the player of the second half of the season, but can someone win it when they joined in January (obviosuly not!?)

I think this sums up what a shabby, shabby season it has been. We've used something like over 30 different players (don't quote me, but I saw a figure some the other day) and only 2 players have made more than 30 appearences. Hence the task of picking someone is tricky. Not only that, but we have been so awful that there is simply just no stand out candidate (IMO). We've been unlucky with injuries and this makes it all the more difficult.

I disagree. I think Morgan has generally had a good season - the odd moment of madness apart e.g. at Newcastle. At times he has carried the defence and he has been partnered by some very average (& I'm being generous) players. He just needs to stop diving in & giving silly free kicks away around the edge of the area. I would have voted for him as player of the season - although as you say, there's not been too much quality from many of our players this season.

OLLESENDRO on Morgan 'He's also missed quite a few games with injuries and suspension.'

Whats your excuse Oll??? by your own admission you ve not been to that many games this season so how you can comment on Morgs nothaving a good season is beyond me.

I will hold my hands up and admit that there are many that are in a better position than I (particularly season ticket holders) to vote on this. I have however been to a handful of games and of course I follow the Blades avidly. Match reports, watching the games on tv, listening on the radio and other second hand sources (such as certain opinions) should not be fully discounted. Most importantly I think that Morgan has been at fault for a lot of goals. I've watched all the goals that we've conceded on tv and also follow Bergens thread. Now i know this is no substitue for being at games, but defenders are paid to keep goals out. If he has been at fault for quite a few goals this season (say between 7 and 10) then even if he has played well during the other 89 minutes, these fuck ups mean that you can't rate his performance so highly.

Don't take this the wrong way, I like Morgan and I personally don't think there is anyone who stands out above him (hence I'm not condeming the choice). However, I think that (again by his high standards) he has had a poor season.

It was empty, in comparison to other years. Hardly anyone at all. Fantastic player turn out though, one of the best for numbers, although as usual they all shot off. (They were all having a pretty good 'team bonding' in the hotel before hand though). Geary & SQuinny stayed until late, they were last players to leave. The legend that is Tony Agana was there, and was asked more than a few times if he could put his boots back on for us.

Not that many players to choose from. I don't know how other branches vote, but we vote after the game for our MOTM and they all go towards the final award. Do some just choose someone when it comes to POTY time??

No, all the branches vote the same way as your branch does, after the game. I believe first, second and maybe third choice each game are sent to the secretary and they are all collated, from the first game of the season, up until Cardiff away, I believe this year. Only players who have played 15 games can be considered and obviously a player who is in the lead and then goes is just scrapped from the system. I suspect Bunn may have been in with a chance till he was recalled.
There was a time when players stayed all night. I remember Paul Beesley and Simon Tracey absolutely hammered on the dance floor one year. We were sat with Paul Devlin and another player another year and they arrived pished! That was in the days when each table sponsored players and they had a meal with the fans too, instead of all being on their own table. Of all the players who've sat with us on our table, Alan Kelly and Nicky Marker were absolute gents.
