Bash, he was with us in the dark times took a fair few slagings off from that period, he has grafted and changed and moved up at every level.

Played where needed and this season and looked every bit a premiership player, never looks like he panics and with the three Bash, Egan, O'Connell we look again every bit like we have played in this league for years.

I went with Fleck as well but honestly I looked at the list and nearly clicked about half a dozen of them. Fleck because his all round game has been so strong. Can attack, defend, pass and move. Mostly because Fleck and Norwood are the midfield duo I've been dreaming of since I started watching the Blades.

Seriously though, the only ones I could eliminate were Berge because he's only just got here, Freeman for not playing much, and the strikers because they've been rotated so often that they haven't got enough minutes each. Any of the regularly starting players have been far better than anything I could have asked or expected of them.

Went for Fleck but could easily have gone for any of the back 5 or Hendo.

What a selection and almost impossible to choose but went for fleck who I believe has adapted into a complete top drawer midfielder.

What a difference to a few years ago when deciding a player of the year was equally difficult but for slightly different reasons !!

Gone for Mr. Reliable, Bash, who everybody wrote off at the start of the season saying he's not good enough get rid. The boy done good.
Could have given it to anybody really as they all deserve it.

Well I have gone for Henderson.Very hard to choose between him and Flecky but I think Henderson is the best goalie in the country at the moment and saved us a lot of points.Sorry Fleck but you have been fabulous to.

For me Bash has been phenomenal this season, under the radar slightly, if anything. He has continually raised his standards and looks every inch a solid Premiership player. I for one thought he would struggle in the Championship. That’s why I’m not a football manager !

Basham for me, part of one the best defensive lines in the Country and is often found on the edge of the opponent's box plucking 40-yard diags down out of the sky like he's played at that level all his career! Fleck is on a par as he does his job unbelievably well week in week out, but he doesn't surprise me as he is a very very good player and was always tipped to be so.
However if you had said when we signed Basham that after a couple of seasons under Clough in midfield he would be playing for Bradford City in League 2 at 28 years old it would not have seemed half as ridiculous as the suggestion that he could be an ever-present premier league overlapping centre back steering the blades towards a European place!?!

You could make a very good case for any of the back 5 + GK to win it.

Make no mistake, the midfielders and forwards have been immense too but this magnificent campaign is based first and foremost on a magnificent defence.

I've gone for Bash out of the 6. I don't think you can slide a Rizla between them in terms of contribution but for me Bash has reached further into reserves nobody, maybe not even he, knew he had, to pull performance after performance out of the bag.

O’Connell for me, slightly ahead of Enda, he’s become a top EPL player. As good as Fleck has been there are better players at other clubs in his position, not the case for JOC or Enda.

Although it's not an unsurprising read, this thread highlights the quality we have throughout this squad of players. Add to this the way many of our players have risen to the challenge of supposed 'better' football and shown that they're more than capable of performing to the standard we'd expect of each and every one of them.

I'm slightly surprised at how little is said about McGoldrick, considering he was signed on a 'freebie' from Ipswich', and how he's not only shown what a superb 'baller he is, but that he's even now an established Prem player. Well done David, you're a credit to yourself and this club.

As for Fleck, what's to be added that's already been said? JF looks every part the quality all-rounder we've known about ever since he signed on a free transfer. Top, top player is John, and we'd be poorer without him.

Just a brief mention for Baldock. Sometimes he looks like it's him against the world, or even his own team-mates, but he's come through a few personal challenges and is integral to our superb defence. George is a fantastic player, and if anyone doubted his worth, the goal he scored against Norwich was on a par with the most skilful forwards you'll ever see - imagine if Bergkamp had scored that goal? Just think about the reaction he'd have received for that display of outrageous talent? Goal of the season for me!

But, and this is, after all, what this thread's about......my vote goes to Chris Basham. Like so many of us, we've watched a player rise through the levels, someone not automatically considered a a shoo-in, but woe betide anyone who imagines our manager doesn't recognise the importance of this player to this team.

It might raise an eyebrow here and there, but Chris is a phenomenon. Whatever drives he possesses it's enabled him to be labelled as a Prem player, and his consistency at this level is little short of astonishing. Both player and manager owe a lot to each other, and to my mind, I look at a player who took his place in Division 1 and has never given anything less than his all since he's been here. Fabulous, wholehearted player is Bash!
