Yeah, a few times. All the players have been told to ignore the flag and only play to the whistle. The goal might have been a bit of a freak but it's our fault, no point blaming any one elseI never knew that an offside flag doesn't actually mean offside / that it could be over ruled.
Has this happened before this season without me realising ?
Why didn't the ref blow the whistle?
It’s simple. Tell the linesmen not to flag.
For ALL offsides now (this is something that has been said to every club and every player), VAR will check it. Linesman have been told not to flag for offside unless someone is clearly off.
Because that's not what happens anymore. For ALL offsides now (this is something that has been said to every club and every player), VAR will check it. Linesman have been told not to flag for offside unless someone is clearly off.
At the end of the day, our players knew this but they stopped anyway and it's cost us a goal.
Yes, but the linesman's flag doesn't control the game, the refs whistle does.Right, but the linesman did flag, didn't he?

Our players stoppped because the linesman stated they were "clearly" off as you put it. Therefor the linesman had an impact on the play, it should not have counted.
Regardless, we know that it is going to get checked regardless so the official line is "play on" until it's checked. Shelvey did, our defense didn't. We risked conceding a goal & got stung for it. Nobody else to blame but ourselves here I'm afraid.

Why was didsy blown offside just now without first consulting VAR then...shouldn’t we play on without a whistle on the off chance the lino was wrong?! They’re picking and choosing and it’s the confusion caused by the inconsistencies that causing the issuesBecause that's not what happens anymore. So get rid of linesman, Im not sure you understand why people are pissed off. Nobody is saying it was the wrong decision, more people are saying the linesman impacted our defence by putting his flag up.

If players have been told linos will only flag is a player is clearly offside, then it's understandable they'll want to save their energy etc if they see the flag go up.
