Play offs ?

Well surely they would
But they dont though do they ?
Havent you noticed what division we are still in after 4 attempts at scraping up through the play offs

So they should but they don't? You really believe that each season the aim is only the play offs and that that makes sound financial sense to the board? Maybe HRH and Jim really don't know anything about football and the financing of it.

Losing in play offs isn't evidence we never aimed for auto in the first place. Is it? Really?

I still think the money Clough spent last Jan is hampering us, Brayford and Coutts are hoovering up a lot of cash sat on the sidelines.

If he hadn't been out injured I think we would have sold Brayford in the summer to free up some cash, still hoping Clough gets a League one job, Donny would be about right and takes Coutts off our hands... No one else will.

Season after season we are one or two signings off of having a side good enough for promotion ,season after season we dont get them
Season after season we fall just short

Now im no rocket scientoligist but i think i can see a common theme developing there and its carried on right through to this seasons transfer window

Winners dont gamble the squad might get lucky and finish top two ,they make sure and given that they are losing money hand over fist i dont believe its from a lack of trying either i genuinely think they are out of their depth in the murky world of transfer dealings and should get someone in who isnt and just leave jim to sound like a cross between siri and lee strafford on social media

You're forgetting an important cog in the machine.

We've made signings of real quality;
Sharp
Sammon
Edgar
Woolford (improving)

AND..... MOST IMPORTANTLY....Nigel Adkins and his back room team. Who:

The majority of not all Championship and no doubt some PL teams would be happy to have.

Is the best manager in this division by a mile.

Won't have been cheap to recruit.

Has a track record of improving players.

Has a track record of promotion.

Adkins is the one reason I am not panicking as if he was not happy with the dealings of the board or their plan to get us out of this division he would be nowhere near this club of ours.

Let's enjoy the fact we are in 2nd, beaten a couple of favourites for promotion at their own gaff and get behind the lads!

I think it’s wide of the mark to say they’ve settled for the playoffs. I’m sure automatic is very much the aim. What I think they have done is failed to give us the best possible chance of making the top 2 with the sale of Murphy and failure to get deals “over the line”.

We still have a chance though largely because we have the best manager in the division for the job we want doing. We also have a few good players and a fair few OK players which with a good manager, might be enough to win this league.

Doesn’t mean I’m not disappointed to live up ot the expectation set by Adkin’s and Phipps’ comments in relation to the transfer window but I still believe we have every chance.

Now im no rocket scientoligist...

In an entirely separate development the International Council for the Advancement of Understatements has announced that no further nominations will be accepted for the prestigious International Understatement of the Year Awards 2015.

We understand that a similar announcement is expected from the National Nonsense Association in respect of their coveted Golden Bollock prize....

I'm adding this to my list of favourite posts and their responses.

It's a thing of beauty.

Agree with you .

If his name was Nigellus LeAdkins he may well walk into a lower end premiership job , but would certainly have a good chance of getting a job with a championship club . ( who no doubt would then have a good chance of promotion into the premiership ) .

( Should they have the Rooney Law for all English managers never mind what colour they are , for jobs in the premiership , as the vogue in the top two divisions seems that clubs go for a Johnny Foreigner )

The blot on the landscape was Reading , but again mitigating circumstances came into play.

His stock asset worth will raise again , when he gets us promoted . I feel his extra motivation is to prove something to Southampton , Reading and even to himself . Whichever way you look at it , IMO , we are already reaping the benefits of his short tenture in the managers hot seat at the lane.

When you look at the choice of English managers I can see why a lot of chairmen go for Carlos Czechbuch; Bruce, Pardew, Fat Sam - and that's the 'good' ones.

The PL is a 'global' league now so I can understand why clubs go for managers with international contacts and successful records in other countries, in theory it should attract the best managers in the world.
I find it more disappointing when Football League clubs go for foreign managers and now one has got a club promoted it's only going to get worse.

And as daft as it sounds, if NA got us into the PL and kept us there, he'd be the prime candidate for the England job.

Yup some good points . I know its tongue in cheek , but if we trawled back through old posts , i remember someone saying the same about Clough and the England job. Adkins is more user / media friendly and certainly could easily walk into the England set up . He has points to prove and scores to settle first .

Judge, difficult to disagree with that, other than the Rocket Scientologist bit which I don't understand , and the vast majority on here have seen it happen as you say. However your original point was that the boards annual aim was the play offs. For nothing other than common sense that can't be the case, even with us.

If Clough had taken us into the PL he'd have been in the running too. Not as media friendly but just the kind of clean cut image the FA seem to love. Ex-England, ex-Liverpool, bland interviews.
I forgot about Eddie Howe tbf, if he keeps Bournemouth up.

whenever they ask Adkins a question , heanswers immediately , thinking nd cogitating the correct response and offering viable conclusions
when they asked Clough questions you got pauses and wanted to squirt WD40 in his ears to free the cogs
