Play offs ?

"Fair play to Sheffield United: you could see they came and waited for us to make a mistake and when you've got people like Billy Sharp and Connor Sammon in your team, they only need half a chance. I thought we didn’t do a lot wrong today. We got beaten by a side who I think will finish top of the league. If you finish above Sheffield United then you’ll have a champions medal around your neck."

just a reminder of what a certain football manager said about us on Saturday.

Well, we're only the best club in the 4th biggest city in England, in just our 5th season in Division 3...

We really ought to be grateful :(

Let's not panic. The additions we have made have been of a good quality for this league, it's disappointing we couldn't add a a couple more but we have the loan market to fall back on.

I'm in 2 minds about all of this.

On the one hand it feels like we've blown a good opportunity to really strengthen the side and stamp our authority on the league. And yet again not addressed some gaping weaknesses in the side.

On the other out squad is huge and we could probably free up some wages. We are in a good position in the league and players like Flynn, Harrison and Kennedy are coming back to fitness. With done, bray and Harris to follow we have more than enough for this league and a good manager.

Plus there is always the loan window

Another view is that refusing to be blackmailed by clubs and agents is the sign of a well run club.

Let's be straight it's always tricky to persuade any good player to sign permently for a league 1 team as it's seen as a backward step for any good player, therefore they need tempting with big wages and incentives.

However the loan system is another matter and we are a much more attractive option for loaning players with a view to a signing and that will be our best way of bringing in quality.

Totally agree.

As disappointed as I am we haven't signed some of the names discussed on here, I'd rather we got the right players in and without being held to ransom (if that's the case).

Honestly think we have been snookered in this window by the size of our squad.

Not enough fringe players moved on to give NA some flexibility in this window. Shame.

Expect a fair bit of activity in loan window. Must move a few on first though.

I've heard the Dan Burn transfer may be renegotiated as a loan.

Year in year out we sell our best player and then dont reinvest , we get linked with players who every one agrees would give us a far better chance of getting out of this fucking godforsaken shitbank of a division

But we dont sign them we take our chances with what weve got and ending up faling short and every year a portion of the fanbase tells me to be hapy about it

We've already got 14:

Howard

Brayford
Edgar
Harris

Basham
Wallace
Baxter
Woolford

Campbell-Ryce
Flynn
Adams
Done
Sharp
Sammon

Clearly short in defence but the likes of Wallace and freeman have come in and done well as with reed in midfield.

I'd try and get the deadwood outside the core first team off the wage bill and concentrate on trying to bring in one or 2 in on loan.

Seems the club are content to take their chances again
Are you ?

This doesn't really make any sense. The club may well be trying to get auto on the cheap - depending on your view - but why take "chances" just by aiming for the play offs? It's up there along with " the club doesn't want promotion" presumably because people actually believe McCabe and the Prince are doing quite well out of us at the moment. Another nonsense.

They are taking a chance on the side being good enough to get ip through the play offs
They have taken this chance for many years
Time and time again its failed

As I said, doesn't make any sense. They surely would be taking a chance on getting up via auto on the cheap before chancing it on the play offs. The PO may be a fall back position but no one would put that as plan A, nor claim it was ever plan A in seasons gone by irrespective of the failures.

Well surely they would
