Derby moved for TV

Another one shifted...

SUFC.co.uk said:
United's home Steel City clash with Sheffield Wednesday has been brought forward one day for TV coverage.
The Bramall Lane encounter will be played on Friday 18th September with a 7.45pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday 19th September and was going to kick-off at lunchtime at South Yorkshire Police's request.

* In addition, sufc.co.uk would like to clarify that United's opening encounter of the Coca-Cola Championship season, at Middlesbrough on Friday 7th August, will kick-off at 8pm and not 7.45pm, as previously advertised.

It's gonna be straight to the pub from work that night I think :)

That just makes no sense at all. The police move the match from 3pm Saturday to Midday because they expect trouble (the reason is pretty clear; so people won't spend hours in the pub before the game fuelling an already volatile fixture), then Sky come along and overrule the police and now it gets moved to Friday 7:45? How does that make any sense? Surely the priority of the police advice in trying to avoid mass violence is more important than Sky's TV schedule? Why the hell can't they all reach an agreement to show the Saturday kick off? As I understand it the only time they can't show football is 3pm-5pm on a Saturday.

Surely a Friday night fixture is the worst time and day of the week for a football fixture of this nature! It gives people plenty of drinking time before the match (I dare say many will have been drinking all day by kick off), many people drink heavily on a Friday night regardless of football, the police are generally already quite busy on a Friday night without the added pressure of a football derby and they have zero chance of controlling which pubs/clubs stay closed or open on a Friday (which they usually do on a Saturday). The fact it's on Sky will make it even worse because ticketless fans from both sides of the city will be in pubs and clubs before and after the games mixing with the normal Friday night crowd. Oh, it's also the Start of freshers week!

Sheer madness! (having said all that, it will be a more exciting match than midday Saturday)

What he said. Echoed my thoughts exactly Sir.

Just shows how much business & money is taking over the game and not safety.

My PE teacher for history of the sport told me that the premiership and championship will have kick offs at 7 am soon because there is more money and business over in china.

Maybe this is becoming a stepping stone.

Absolutely unbelievable. Tuesday nights against them were bad enough, but a bloody Friday? As well as what Flawed has correctly pointed out, many people's conditioned hours finish early on a Friday (TIFFOE day, for those who know).

Madness.

Great news for me. I can make that and watch my non-leauge side the next day. Plus not a 12.45 kick off!!

last time we played em on a friday... was at the lane... and boom..... browny.

Night games at the Lane are always good anyway. Let's hope we can win em' this year!

I'm gonna be in Mexico for this game (Swine Flu permitting!) Will it be on Fox Sports? Think it was last year...
