Just concentrate on the positives

Maybe it was availability, strikers may have been easier to get hold of, but he needs 2 CB in the post, recorded delivery by Monday.

£2.5m on a right back? That'll be a good idea.
Acknowledging the problem of CBs 10 months ago and not sorting it to this day? That'll be a good idea.
Concentrating solely on signing Sharp for an over-priced reported £500,000 whilst not focusing on the main areas? That'll be a good idea.
Not shipping anyone out untill the start of the season, whilst we have a squad of 34 players? That'll be a good idea.

Sort it please.

Adkins is the manager not Phipps, McCabe or the Prince. The buck stops with Adkins.

Not entirely, they brought in the manager. They also buy the players, maybe some of them are picked by the manager and I'm sure the manager has a budget to work within, but they sign it all off...

There's also the little matter of what they handed over to the new man from the old regime.

Now I presume a lot here, but when the last manager (and the one before that) got the boot, they must've had a plan of what they wanted from a footballing perspective. Perhaps the end of season review by the board found that we gave too many points to shit sides.

Brayford and Sharp are not responsible for what happened today though!!!

NA probably saw something in pre season that suggested it'd be a good idea to go with the defenders we already have. He's seen enough today probably to make he re-consider.

Early days.

Well judging on today's performance, they haven't stopped the goals against and didn't improve the goals for. Null pwa (Nil points).

That was a real shocking result.

Beginning to wonder if the only two blokes who can turn it around are Neil Warnock and Sir Alex Fergusson. Neither of which are likely to be our manager.

To be fair to adkins this is still cloughs team
He has seen their lack of testicles in a first team game now and understands why we do well in the cups and not in the league
Because the players are wankers

Over to you nige

He saw us look good against Hull and Newcastle. Maybe we should have had friendlies against some fierce lower league teams, as they're the buggers who keep beating us.

Or...

They could leave the manager in place and work with him. Until they turn it around...

in the words of a face film, show us the money. If the problem isn't money then is it Branigan and his negotiations?
If they show the money then other teams can exploit that. It may be Brannigan's fault, I don't know, I don't know what goes on in negotiations. However, given that Clough tried to bring in CBs and failed and a similar thing is happening here maybe it is him. I don't know, time will tell.

You have to wonder who sanctioned Collins' contract being extended (or his option taken up, or whatever), apparently prior to NA's arrival. Also, same goes for sanctioning NC's decision to extend McEveley's contract (amongst others) at a point when NC's position was under review.

Brannigan (with the board's say-so)? The board?

Whoever it was, it's significantly contributed to tying NA's hands & leaving him with a ridiculously overstuffed squad & wage-bill to deal with.

Hey, that's our club captain. The man NA believes is best placed to take us forward on and off the pitch.

He was left with a fait accompli in both McEveley's & Collins' cases. He's now trying to make a silk purse out of a pig's ear with McEveley (maybe foolishly?).

Just wonder what other constraints/demands have been placed upon him?

What is slightly concerning is that, in his desire to create a positive environment, he hasn't seemed at all willing to push anyone out of the group. It's all been (seemingly) about making everyone feel good. But the group's far too big as well as being not good enough in certain key areas.
It can't ALL be about positivity (ref: Kenny Jackett's approach at Wolves when they were in this division).

I have no idea what happens behind the scenes with DW, NC or NA but these players need cups thrown at their heads. They're soft as shit in a hard league. It's not like they'd be able to connect with them anyway.

I hope that this is the last time I post a negative against Phipps but why the fuck did we just buy an expensive striker and not bother with midfield or defence...?

Sort it out, quick.
And I sodding goalkeeper. Don't say Howard is enough

Sorry but since when has Jim Phipps decided on who to buy. Manager asks can we have him, Jim if a reasonable request then instructs mal brannigan to attempt todo a deal. He doesn't decide who to bring in, they hired Nigel Adkins to do that as part of his job. Adkins knows what he needs, by the end of August I'm sure we'll have 1-2 new faces in place.

Pre season friendless are notorious for telling you sweet fuck all about the season. Last season told us far more.

Emphasising the "clean slate" and "let's see what they can do" was probably his first mistake.

Thinking a 4 man midfield with Baxter in it could protect our questionable defence, his next.

Thinking any team we put out should contain Long, his third.

Let's hope he learns quickly.

You and others can correct me, but the previous system I was aware of (post weir and at the start of cloughs reign), the manager gave his targets (for example striker, expensive, mid option, cheap) and the football committee would then discuss this. The manager was part of this so were people from board and coaches etc. The decision was a committee decision on which player we could afford, which we could realistically get and which would fit best, that type of thing.

It was then down to the commercial side to 'procure' the player in priority order.

This is normal in my industry as well and the guy I spoke to at the top level at the time, would sign this off too for checks and balances purposes.

The idea that the manager is reponsible solely for signings would surprise me hugely.

whos to say that when the targets were given over to Jim that he didn't go after all at once and it just happens to be that the deals to bring billy and the fish to the lane went through easier than any deal happening now for our much needed defenders. One game, may have been shit (understatement) but that is all it was, one game. September will see a different backline, I'm sure of that
