To be fair, he was never going to get a chance with the goalscoring prowess of Porter and Cresswell ahead of him!!:(

I love the comments on here "not seen much of him but..."

But those that like to moan assume that Coventry have seen something in a trial that we haven't in the season or so he's been with us...

Lots can be speculated about, it's not always down to talent. Personalities, ambitions of the club v ambitions of the player don't always match.

How come Coventry City (who played us off the park first half last week and Robins has got them together) have signed a player we had and deemed not good enough to get a run in the first team - have they seen something that their coaching staff can work on and ours packed it in as a bad job! - Strange !!

It rarely happens that any player thats moved on becomes really good , but Wednesday in 91 saying Cantona looked good in training but ordinary on a pitch must stand as one of the biggest gaffes of all time

True, but we had Philliskirk nigh on two years I think - a tad longer than Wednesday had Cantona

I agree with the theory, but we have a history of players 'getting better' when they move to other clubs Sharp, Mendonca, Marsden, even Mick Hill (that is turning the clock back!)
Interestingly, more rececently Nathan Dyer, Leon Britton, Phil Bardsley,, all deemed not good enough for the Blades but now plying their trade in the Premier League

Well done fiery. Now name all the ones that haven't done anything since moving on :)

Wasn't Bardsley recalled to be sold?

didnt Britton go as he was homesick . his family moved him back , we knew he was ok

and Sharp , hes had more clubs than nick faldo , makes you wonder why
and hes not a prem regular
Mendonca wasnt a real success till 6/7 years after he left us a real late developer

Hi Swiss, In answer to your question every club have let players go who have then gone on to oblivion - its the nature of the beast

Realistically, as I have said before that we have had Philliskirk on the books for two years and the manager has not regarded him good enough to be picked for the first team - if (and that is a big if) he becomes a success at Coventry ( I can't comment on his ability as I haven't seen him too many times) then perhaps our coaching staff is questionable!

But we don't know who instigated the release and why, thats my point. I think you might have to question the player as well.

The point with many of the development players is that they are just that. It seems that the club has seen potential in all the players, but for whatever reason it doesn't work out with some of them. The likes of Ironside, MacFadzean, Long and Whitehouse have all come through that route and also come via the academy.

I actually like the idea of the Development Squad idea, i'm just not sure its as good in practice. There are other question marks over the players coming into the development squad from outside the likes of MacAlistair, Philliskirk, Tonne etc have all failed to make that step up, whilst our own homegrown players are pushing on. This probably says a lot more about our nurturing abilities in the Academy.

Miller was also in the development squad and came through well after a shorter spell. Was it a conscious decision to focus on Miller and ignore Philliskirk? Doubtful, what is more likely is that Philliskirk was given the chance and just wasn't able to make that step up enough for first team opportunities.

I've said before that Wilson likes his first team and tends to stick with it. This is great after years of rotations in the game, but it also means that when the rare chances fall to the youngsters, that they have to take them. Perhaps he'll get more chances with Coventry and perhaps Philliskirk knows that he won't get as many chances here and that Coventry is better for him to develop slower.

The other point is that Danny Wilson felt (rightly or wrongly) that bringing in someone like Forte, with pace is a better option for the team and in order to get Forte, he had to release a fringe player. Its perhaps a gamble, but not a massive one.

PHILLISKIRKS GONE !!!! Well that's it ,seasons over , we've fucked it
Game over man

I can't chuffing believe it .madness total fucking madness , and to Coventry as well ??? Fucking Coventry that just shows the ambition of the club
