I didnt mention you? We can all play this game.
Based on previous contributions to this thread, it seems quite obvious that:

It's always about Wilder. The only reason he's made this guff up about a drinking problem is because he doesn't like Wilder
was, in your stalkerish fashion, referring to me. So stop being such a silly little sausage and get on with your homework or something. There’s a good lad.

Is everyone who doesn't drink miserable or are you just referring to alcoholics?
fair point, well made!

Speaking for myself, I consider myself to have a healthy relationship with alcohol (as in, I enjoy drinking alcoholic drinks, I don't drink for the effect that it causes). If my employer told me I couldn't do something I enjoy (at all), I think I would be grumpy about it.

Performance is about physical fitness, but we all know psychology plays a big part in performance too. An unhappy player that is physically very fit, wouldn't perform better than someone who is less fit but in a better place mentally.

You could assemble a squad who don't drink and then banning drink wouldn't effect them. If you took the England cricket squad (past or present) and banned them from drinking, I can't see them being very happy about it. Would we see better performances from them t total, or having a balanced approach?

Using cricket as an example doesn’t work when discussing footballers. Completely different game, there isn’t the same requirement to be an elite athlete.

Many players would accept being washed up after winning the league, European cup and European player of the year.
Indeed. But we’re talking about a generational talent in his case, an outlier in terms of this discussion. For your average professional, their lifestyle choices determine the length of their career and the level they can aspire to, today more than ever before.

I would argue there is still a requirement to be an elite athlete, although I take your point that they are very different requirements.

Alcohols effect on reaction speed, muscle recovery and inflammation definitely would impact in their ability to perform.
