Inspired by the Deadbat report thread, there was some discussion, albeit in jest, about whether any of our players deserved better ratings.

Fleck was outstanding yesterday and some would argue that EEL's performance merited a higher rating after scoring 2 goals and keeping Vale's entire forward line in his pocket for the whole game.

It got me thinking, when do you think one player has deserved 10/10? When has one player completely bossed a game or stood head and shoulders above everyone else?

I'll throw some examples in to get the ball rolling....

TC v West Ham 1975 (quality goal from a quality player)
Woody's 4 goals v Ipswich 1972
Edwards 4 goals v Gillingham 1983
Deane hat-trick v Ipswich circa 1992/3

I'd also throw in when Edwards came off the bench to score a hat-trick v Grimsby in a League Cup tie circa 1982.

Can't remember specific games but I'd say a couple of our keepers under Bassett, Kelly and Rees, had some virtually perfect performances. Cockerill in our promotion season had some blinders.
Depends if you expect perfection, which I don't because it's impossible, there's always going to be something questionable for an outfield player but I'd say I've seen Deane, Agana, Jagielka, McGrath, Holdsworth, Morgan, Morris have 10s. Probably some more too, like Bryson and some I've forgotten about. Edit, like Brown which is ridiculous as I watched his bloody goal on here last night.

The best opposition performance I've seen in recent years was

Adel Tarabt when we lost 3-0 to QPR. He was head and shoulders the best player in the pitch and looked a real world beater, reminded me of Messi. Think he's really wasted his talent.

The other opposition player that stood out was the Irish international winger when Reading got promoted. Forgot his name but he went on to sign for Wolves.

Those were 10 out of 10 performances by an opposition player.

I rate the players like Football Manager. Ebanks-Landell got a 10 yesterday (didnt put a foot wrong defensively and scored 2 goals) and Fleck 9.

Unless they do something extraordinary, substitutes don't get rated above 6. Chapman other week for example.

Always remember Wednesdays keeper Pressman have the game of his life when we lost at the swill. It was absolutely incredible and unbelievable how we lost that game.

Towards the end you just knew nothing was getting past him and I'd resigned myself to it and didn't even get out of my seat when it was one on one.

When you consider that he should have had a goal to his name as well, Fleck wasn't far off 10/10 in the first half yesterday.

Just watched that disallowed goal back btw, and it's an absolute shocker. Sharp isn't blocking the keeper's view and he isn't even offside anyway.

If a CB scoring two goals, keeping a clean sheet and winning every single challenge he went for doesn't qualify as a 10/10 performance I don't know what does.

Browny vs Pompey at Fratton Park when we won 2-1 BITD was pretty much 9.5/10.

pommpey

Alan Kelly away at Coventry in the FA Cup springs to mind though he did concede one so maybe not

Yes I was at both them games and he was incredible. I think Coventry away slightly shaded it because they were in great form at the time.

Alan Kelly at Wembley against them lot will take some beating as a keeper performance. Would have been a pasting without him.

Completely blanked that out of my memory! I do remember match of the day that night hardly talking about Wednesday and just banging on about how good Kelly was. I was only about 9 at the time . Not a chance I'd have watched the highlights after a defeat like that today

I'd also throw in when Edwards came off the bench to score a hat-trick v Grimsby in a League Cup tie circa 1982.

I thought I would miss the match as I had just missed the bus (number 203 at the time, now number 43 that goes a long way round Dronfield and Dronfield Woodhouse) so I decided to run for about a mile from my home to Wreakes Lane and managed to catch the same bus ( at the bus stop in Wreakes Lane)

Good hat trick by Edwards but not a 10 out of 10 performance

My 10 out of 10 performances by a Blade player since 1970

TC v West Ham March 1975
TC v Stoke (billed as TC v Hudson match by the papers) April 1975
Sabella at Preston August 1978
Tonge v Millwall August 2002

I seem to remember Glynn Hodges conducting the symphony that was SUFC 6-0 Spurs with the panache of Pirlo. He was a glorious player when in the mood.

Ndlovu got that hat trick v Ipswich 5-3, pretty sure Brown & Morgan wouldve got 10 at some point in their career

If were on about opposition players Chris eagles in that 08/09 season we lost to burnley in the play off final was pretty good at lane. Unplayable. Just ran the show scored a hat trick i think, either that scored 2 & made 1
