We need a Championship class striker, no doubt about it.
I don't think we can realistically afford a ready made, championship class striker, unfortunately.

It baffles me how we are not closing down these shots more - also isn't Snodgrass naturally left footed so surely Stevens should have known/ been informed to not let him to turn on to his better foot- regardless I was told as a full back to push them out to the wings never let them come into the middle
we had a warning not long before the goal with Grealish running through and his shot just going wide
We did close them down, all game. When the ball was passed to him I immediately knew he was going to score. I don't know why, but I'm guessing it was clear the defence was in the wrong place, covering the wrong players and options. He still had a lot to do, but it was one of the very, very few opportunities in the game where one of their strikers could get a clean shot off.
Is a ridiculous 42%. Almost half of the shots teams have against us goes in. It's by far the most in the league. We have also had less shots on goal than all but 5 teams in the league though we have the 5th best shots per goals ratio.

I agreed about the striker. We can’t afford to address it, and (controversially) should consider selling Brookes.Only a handful of teams can afford one, considering the going rate for a "top striker" appears to be £10-£15m. This means we will have to buy a player who has the capability to potentially be a top striker - this will mean shopping in the lower leagues or abroad.
In every other position we are above average?
I doubt whether our RCB, LWB and ST would be considered above average, relative to our opposition.

I think Baldock is above average at RWB.
I’d accept the point about LWB, but still argue a keeper is top of the list.
If the keepers were switched, we’d have won that game comfortably.y Villa concede the fewest which was born out last night. We had 6 shots on target and scored none.

But I didn’t say we agreed, other than about the striker.I'm not sure we do agree if you still think a GK is the priority.
You seem to be saying; "We can't afford a ready made striker, so we should get a keeper 1st instead"
I'm saying; "we will never be able to afford a ready made striker, so we should concentrate on buying somone with the potential to improve rather than a new keeper"
Completely agree: it was RCB where I had more concern.
Each to their own I guess, but I very much doubt a keeper is top of the list, so you may be disappointed.

world class shots need high quality keepers to save themThat is mad to be fair. We do seem to concede a disproportionate amount of worldies. Even the Snodgrass effort, whilst a poor decision from Stevens, was still a great finish.
no i’m levelling it at bothGiven the amount of games Blackman has played this stat can't be levelled on one keeper.
this all dayIf the keepers were switched, we’d have won that game comfortably.

But I didn’t say we agreed, other than about the striker.
And for me, if you can’t afford a better striker, you move in you your next weakest link which for me, is the GK.
I’m not trying to convince you about the keeper - you’re entitled to your view. But I’m quite comfortable with the logic of my argument.
In terms if Strikers, Wilder is trying to address our point by signing premiership loanees. For now, that option is covered by James Wilson. I would predict a similar type of signing next year if, as I suspect, we don’t go up.
In what way is Moore a 'weak link'?But I didn’t say we agreed, other than about the striker.

NO goalkeeper saves world-class shots. It would have needed a freak with arms 10-foot long to get near the ball. Explain how any goalie can get to a ball that goes high above him, is curling round him, and going into the corner of the goal. You see those go in every week from the likes of Salah, Mahrez, etc.world class shots need high quality keepers to save them
That statistics site also shows we are comfortably top of the league regards CORNERS.
We average 6.5 corners per match
Where the opposition only average 3.2 corners per match.
I think it’s difficult to strengthen us, given our lack of resource,
I suppose the question is - will being in the Championship for a few seasons (hopefully) increase the budget sufficiently to allow us to improve on the current level of signings? This, in a single line, is our problem.
When you look at some of our players, where they've come from, the job they're doing, and the standard they're offering, it's very hard to criticise. We've got two wingbacks in their first Championship season and they've got us comfortably in the top half of the table. Unfortunately, they aren't quite good enough coming forward when it comes to beating a man or crossing the ball. But what can we do? They're fantastic signings relative to the budget. That Villa squad last night had cost them tens of millions and they stole a win with a top class outside of the box finish.
I can point out the areas I'd like to improve to push us that bit further up the table but doing so on our current budget would be working miracles. Hopefully this season will end strongly enough that as an established Championship club we can speculate further on our transfers. As far as this season goes, all we can do is enjoy what's left and hope that it's enough to pull off the spectacular.
It's so frustrating being just short, but we have to remember this is overachieving and not failure.
I thought Snodgrass was a prick all night but that was a top class strike.NO goalkeeper saves world-class shots. It would have needed a freak with arms 10-foot long to get near the ball. No, it will be about the same each year but as we get a better squad we'll not have to bring in as many new players so, for example, instead of making eight signings in a season we'll only have to make two or three. And as we start to get rid of the players we don't use much, like Carruthers, it will free up money for wages.I suppose the question is - will being in the Championship for a few seasons (hopefully) increase the budget sufficiently to allow us to improve on the current level of signings?
