I could understand this from certain sections of a Premier League fan base but this is the manager and "star player" saying it. It's sort of their job to know a little bit about what they are coming up against.

Maybe they are saying it in a bid to force us to go gung ho but it seems more likely they just haven't been prepped on the opposition and are relying on their players simply being too talented for us. They obviously do have better players but I wouldn't be happy if we had took that approach last season against someone like Wigan.

Another team that won't watch us in depth. The teams who cut out the throw in move watched us, Liverpool, Leicester. Arsenal were embarrassing, got caught 3 times. Southampton had no idea how we played and had to completely change shape at half time. Hopefully West Ham are as ignorant and we take advantage

The amount of teams that haven't picked up on this over the last few years has genuinely amazed me.

great research by their buffoon manager and players ! in for a bit of a shock!

can't take anyone seriously who looks like the love child of these 2

Declan Rice also said that all we have done all season is put men behind the ball. Either they are playing mind games or they simply don't do any preparation for a game. I'd be worried if I was a West Ham fan as it all seems very blase for a club that are known for losing against "lesser teams"
Declan Rice ..... Declan Fucking Rice.

Every ignorant comment from players, pundits, managers and fans just puts fire in the belly
of Sheffield United.

It's a great tactic if we mix it up. If a player moves to block it and we are clever enough and feign it , it can then work both ways.

I personally love to see it.

Completely agree. I just can't believe so many professional football clubs who regularly scout us haven't clocked on :D

Throughout football in general, I don’t know why teams just don’t mark the thrower.

Probably 80% of throw-ins are passed straight back to the unmarked thrower.

If you put a man on him, it at very least forces them to do something different without an easy way of retaining posession.

Thank god it's not only me who thinks this.

Declan Rice is one of the most overrated players i've seen for some time

Reminds me of another Manuel who was totally clueless.

"I am from Barthelona - I know naarthing'

We do put quite a big emphasis on being first to 2nd balls. Wilder doesn't ever want their defenders to have a free header for this reason.

I really don't see this as a bad thing.

It never ceases to amaze me how some football fans and pundits see certain elements of the game as either archaic or lower league.

As Wilder has always said, no matter what level you play at you've still got to win races, win tackles, win headers, win second balls etc.

I see rather than praise us for having the best defensive record in the league with Liverpool but naturally not as good as them offensively, to some that just makes us a defensive team with everyone behind the ball.

I cant read your messages now without hearing your voice thanks to the pod! You’re the modem day Richard Attenborough/Samuel L Jackson!

I do find it amusing that so many people seem to believe that the coaches of teams we play don't know how we play. Pellegrini has been a coach for 30 years, taken unfashionable sides to the latter stages of the Champions League and managed Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Naturally, these people know, but again a lot of our fans want to be insulted by simple, generic terms. I don't give a toss anyway, I like how we play and I don't need anyone's permission to enjoy it, but just to put it in perspective:

" they're a consistent team that plays always in the same way" Yes
"strong players who work a lot during 95 minutes, with a lot of balls inside the box". Yes

Also, the phrase "direct football" does not have the same connotations in the Spanish-speaking world as it has here. When someone used to Spanish football says "direct" or "vertical" football they just mean a team that moves the ball from back to front quickly without a lot of sideways passing. Real Madrid get called "direct".

Maybe some things got lost in translation.
I don't think he would be so unprepared. Not someone with his experience. Would he?
Mind games I think.

Spot on. I always think that if teams cotton on to that little throw-in routine then it's a barometer of how much research they've put into the way we play. As you say, Arsenal were repeatedly caught out by it. It's so fucking simple yet you still see a team like that being caught out by it. Embarrassing.

It’s just mind games, like wilder says , every time does there homework on the opposition. I have always liked Pellegrini , but not so much now, I think he is being a snob!
