I’m still curious how we “play Gus more centrally” and still keep Peck.

It would seem strange for Plan A to involve stopping your player of the year in O’Hare.

Peck moves for maximum cash. We slot Gus in alongside Jairo. O’Hare plays no 10. Gus occasionally moves further forward when Arblaster comes in and if O’Hare needs rotating.

Still leaves Rothwell giving experience from the bench.

We’ve not really shown any desire to play O’Hare on the left so far, that would be my only reservation.

Coventry managed to accommodate them both centrally, so why not us?

Good player and very likeable guy, but a much easier type of player to replace at a lower fee than the likes of Hamer.

Selles tried a tweaked version; Peck central, Hamer and O'Hare as 8s. Problem was that both Hamer and O'Hare played like 10s. Leaving Peck on his own in midfield and it was a disaster. I think Gus has changed his mentality/mindset so much (all about creating now) from his Coventry days that I'm unsure he's capable of changing back.

Yep - this has been the biggest gap in the team ever since he left. Not just his passing range but his ability to dictate the game strategy for us. He was an incredibly undervalued asset and was always going to be difficult to replace.

Certainly I am not expecting big signings,why would i ? Who knows what access the owners have to funds as well ? people say “I think “ with many topics on here and have no idea. Americans play gamesmanship in many businesses and this is no different.
I am more alarmed that the owners fucked up last preseason with a total disaster of an appointment,there were more managers out there to change the identity of the club with progression,instead we go back to the same old.

Our owners are far from broke. How much of their money they wish to waste on a football club is a different matter.

I think the new regulations allow 0wners to put in 10 million a year over 3 years.Being a billionaire doesn't give you licence to spend as much as you like.A well run club with good infrastructure is all you can do.Always good to have wealth within your owners though!

I put One in my original line up, but I opted for a new Lw, as I think wed need someone with more pace and athleticism, who will be able to put a shift in to get back and help out with defence.

Hamer played most of his game as a CDM with Coventry in a 3-4-2-1



Flicking through the filters on TransferMarkt, it suggests he played 131 times in that position and 135 times as a standard CM (132 of those were at Coventry).
He never played on the left for them.

To put United into that formation, it would look something like this:

Bamford
O'Hare - Donovan
McCallum - Hamer - Peck - Seriki
New CB - McGuinness - Tanganga
Cooper​

This is his position map over his career. LM, LW, AM & SS are all for United. Right Back and Right Mid are at Zwolle



So it appears United converted him to a LM from a DM... but, his output at United is far better than when at Coventry (and that includes a woeful PL campaign).

No, he's a CDM. Plays infront of the 2 CBs, allowing Burrows and Seriki to go forward. Hamer has the freedom to play alognside him or push forward when required
