Sheffield United are poised to appoint Paul Hart as their new manager. Hart, who was previously boss of Nottingham Forest, Barnsley, Portsmouth and QPR, is set to take charge next week. He was interviewed for the job after Doncaster's Sean O'Driscoll turned down the chance to succeed Gary Speed at Bramall Lane.

Speed took charge of the Championship outfit in the summer but left earlier this month to become the new manager of Wales.
His managerial debut was far from outstanding though and he left Yorkshire with the club hovering just above the relegation zone. They sit in 20th place in the table after losing their last two games to Hull and Norwich. The Blades have also been given permission to speak to Port Vale manager Micky Adams but it is understood Hart had already been told he would land the post if O' Driscoll rejected the offer.

dont like the bloke either but if were to bring in someone as low and cheap we really should have got him in before given speed there job. might have picked up more points. as speed was clueless.

saying that though Adams is screaming at united to reach a decision according to the star and the daily mirror

I dont have a problem with Paul Hart as such but if there is any truth in that, then what a short sighted appointment!

This is supposed to be a long term appointment that can drive the club on from top to bottom (changing the ethos and all that bollocks). You have to look at the man's age and his managerial achievements overall.

Paul Hart is a good bloke but the prospect of giving him the job at the moment doesnt set the pulse racing.

He would save us from relegation I have no doubt but that would be it. They'll probably hire him on a deal til the end of the season. Rubbish.

looks like its crunch time today fellas

much rather have mickey adams

Has managed 7 clubs and has lost more than he's won at every one. OK, so that never tells the whole story, but there doesn't seem to be a huge amount that's positive that can be said about any of his tenures.

I quite liked this on Wikipedia though:

"After the disappointment of his spell at Barnsley, Hart decided to take some time out of football, opening a dog kennels in Newton Le-Willows. In February 2006, after receiving a nasty bite on his forearm by a German Shepherd, he decided to sell up and return to football management."

Bloody dog...

Can't believe this could possibly be true. If it were to be it would rival the appointment of Robson for complete idiocy and would spell the end for thousands more Blades who will see it as the final straw.

Could be yet another in the mix. Could be yet another rumour. BUT, if Hart is appointed it really is white-flag time. He's no more than a stand-in until a club appoints a proper manager. We don't have the time for this.

Won't get too annoyed until we know if this is true but, if it is Hart, annoyed won't be the word for it.

*see RUMOURS section*

Sorry Torrix I wrote this same time as rumours section see time stamp.

Chillout, it's all part of the well-thought out and lengthy recruitment process...
Unless we're a club completely and utterly rudderless without a fucking clue what we're doing.
No wonder SOD said no thanks. Who'd want to work with these imbeciles?

Does anyone else think McCabe & co should sign our next manger with a X factor style phone vote ?

Let McCabe & co aproach managers with details on what the board offers with the job and then give us the names of all the managers that accepted the terms and the board are happy with. Then the managers themselves have a brief 5 minute apearance too tell us what there plans are and what they aim to acheive with the club. Then it goes too the phone vote were united fans get too vote for there ideal candidate. That way we the fans get a say in the matter, the club receives 70% from every pound it costs too vote and then we go buy reidy (or a sniper to take out not-worthy) with the proceeds

Surely a win win situation for all

I can't believe Paul Hart is being mentioned, if he is even being considered you have to fear for the future.

I'd rather they appoint Gerry Adams than Paul Hart!!

This is hopefully a rumour that's way off the mark. I think it was the Mail that said a day before Warnock was appointed that said Bobby Gould would be our new manager...

From an image point of view this would be a poor appointment. Clubs wanting to make a serious longterm appointment as manager do not appoint Paul Hart - desperate clubs appoint him.

How about SUFC announce the shortlist, and then all the managers are lined up for the day in Gunge tanks outside bramall lane, each with a ladder to the top. Blades fans get the opportunity to come down to the lane, climb the ladder and piss in the tank of the manager they least want. The manager with the least piss in his tank gets offered the job.

If feel this would accurately portray to the board how little the enthusiasm is for some of the people rumored to be on the shortlist.

Get ready for the incoming flack but:

I thought Hart should have replaced Warnock instead of both Robson and Blackwell so I'll get to see if I'm talking bollocks now if this is true.

Why pick Hart?

Isn't Pembo supposed to be part of the process and didn't they work together at Forrest?
Will Hart take the post and work with the current support team and therefore save the club money in sackings giving Hart monies to use in January?
Wasn’t Hart at big factor at Leeds when they successfully brought talented youngsters thru the ranks into the first team?
Did he not play under Clough so knows what the grass is meant to be used for?
Is he not as much a risk like an up and coming manager such as Scott?

Think about it, he ticks quite a few boxes?

Change of Image Required?
Mr McCabe mentioned fairly recently that United needed an image change. I am sure that he is correct. We need to shed the image of being aggressive, physical and confrontational if ever we are to get a fair crack of the whip with decisions from the Premiership, FA, referees etc.

If the above is a given, do we need to ensure that our next choice of manager is suited to the improved image that we require to get a fair crack of the whip.

Ticks this box as well?

like youre style but i think they should charge for letting us piss in the tank that way were also raising money for the club

I don't think this is likely. Can you imagine McCabe selling this to potential investors?

KM: 'yes that's right, we've recently appointed Paul Hart as the new manager'

Potential investor: 'surely not the same Paul Hart who only seems to get employment when a club's in serious financial turmoil?'

KM: 'The very same.'

Potential investor: 'And you still expect me to believe that this club is financially sound and this wouldn't be a wasted investment?'

KM: 'That's right'

Hart failed with the most talented group of players ever assembled at this level. What will he do with our mob?

It's funny how the whole managerial appointment process has turned into a complete fiasco.
Who could have possibly thunk it.

It sure is...

That's if you listen to the papers, the "look at me" ITK's and the rumours.

Other than that, what can you say, at this point in time, has gone drastically wrong with the recruitment process?

Why has it turned into a fiasco? The club have been straight from day one. They would make an appointment in early january. As for the rest of it it's just speculation by papers anxious to fill column inches.
