I thought the same when I heard he'd turned Walsall down. I think he is the sort that we should be after in terms of his age. He was only offered a one year deal by Walsall though, so not totally sure on this one. He would be a free transfer though. I wouldn't mind Sam Mantom either, but apparently he's wanted by a Championship club.

Anthony Forde yet to agree a deal with them too. They could be in real trouble next season should he leave too.

Forde's under 23 though and would command a tribunal fee, and quite frankly I don't think we'll be paying any transfer or tribunal fees this summer, bar possibly McFadzaen. Forde's a decent player but might be a little out of reach, and could head to someone like Barnsley. Mantom is more realistic and at 24 won't command any tribunal fee.

Just looking at Walsall's fans forum and the reviews on Downing are very mixed. I'd rather had Shaun Hutchinson from Fulham. Bit disappointed we didn't sign him, but if we sign say Greer and Burn I'll not be complaining! Sorry to mention Burn but he's still available!

He was a nominal fee because Bury are financially screwed! Yes its a transfer fee but a small one that even we could afford. I can't see us affording what wioll be required for Forde, who is 22 and really highly rated. Who knows though, we might sign him.
