Paul Cox anyone ???

I must admit, I didn't really know much about him until I read a post on here. His record is seriously impressive though, in 370 games as manager, he has only lost 93! You can point out that he managed against shit teams but everything is relative and it's not as if he used Real Madrid players in his teams.

Put that against Clough's record of losing more games than he has won and Richie Barker's (really?? Come on now.....) inexperience, he stands head and shoulders above.

He would do for me.

He's done an unbelievable job at Eastwood and Mansfield and I'm never against appointing managers who are on their way up so I wouldn't complain if we went for someone like him.

I never concentrate on win percentages when I look at a manager though. They can be misleading because it's all relative to the situations at the clubs they've managed. Someone like Karl Robinson will always have a decent win percentage at MK because they've been one of the favourites for promotion ever since he's been there. He's a good manager but you'd expect him to have a better win % than plenty of managers who have a better reputation.

I agree in part with what you say about win percentages, but if you lose more games than you win, it generally means that you aren't as good as if you win more than you lose. Sooner or later Robinson will be found out when constantly finishing just outside the playoffs doesn't cut it any more.

I do completely agree. It wasn't aimed directly at your post, it was more of a general comment based on plenty of posts I've seen on here and on Twitter over the last few days.

Never got this win % myself either. If he has got promotions we need to speak to him because a good managers gets his team over the line. Wilson has a great win percentage but couldn't win the big ones.

There are some good promising young managers in our division :-

Davis, Smith, Robinson, Barker and Parkinson are probably achievable targets but you might as well flip a coin to who will be successful with us. All of them look like they are the types to command respect when they walk into a room and reading into Cox I think he is the same. It's vital they don't suffer fools and can deal with a bad egg and ego's.

The guy who gets the job should be the man who gets the prince and Jim Phipps bouncing out of the meeting.

Whatever any of you think about us now some of them must look at this job and want some of it.

I'm not sure the club would be interested. Phipps said himself that the manager will be an experienced manager with knowledge of the league we are in. Cox doesn't exactly have the experience of this league or above but I would definitely give the man a chance. Might as well go for it.

As I said on a previous thread Cox has been sounded out a couple of weeks or more ago.
From what I can gather it won't be him. He is more likely to go to Notts County if they sack Kiwomya.
Either way Mansfield will try to hold on to him and he is close to their chairman.

However I also believe he might of had a look at this great forum earlier today when told there was some complimentary posts about him.;-)

Not him personally- however a text of mine saying to get his arse up here was forwarded on to him today!
I believe County had shown more interest than Utd, rather than his preference. I don't now what that would be. This was a couple of weeks ago at least as well.

I still think that it will be Clough all the same. I just don't get any enthusiasm about him.

I agree, i can't see our board going for him. Our lot are always obsessed with names.
I don't hate Clough, but he wouldn't be on my list.
