Since about 1990 I must have attended nearly 500 games at the Lane. For about 95% of these I have parked my car on Belgrave Square - not a square but a cul-de-sac with terraced houses on one side only
and which I estimate could fit in about thirty vehicles on the two sides. Now one needs a permit to park
there.
So on Saturday I parked further back on Highfield Place. I walked to the ground along Belgrave Sq. and
noticed that only three cars were parked there. As I returned after the game only four cars were parked there.
What is the point of such a restriction?

We used to pay to park around Stokes Tiles but now we park in the car park of one of the businesses round there for free. Theres a car park on Headford Street/Egerton Street, thats where we go now.

Probably because the people on Belgrave Sq were pretty pissed off with people parking their cars outside their house for 3 hours every fortnight on a Saturday afternoon

You must remember the piggy council that puts all obstructions they can call to mind in the way of anyone associated with United.
If they really used their imagination they could actually show support for our football club supporters by lifting unnecessary restrictions on streets that do not need access during Saturday or evening games like around Edmund road area with the small business units on the next streets. Lift the parking restrictions from say 1pm to 6pm and 6pm for evening games.
Too much hassle for them to go through some sort of legislation?

Yep, use't to park there in the 70's & 80's. On my yearly visits back there I normally end up getting a parking ticket for some reason - not understanding the local restictions etc.!

There are no restrictions after 6.30? Certainly not on the pay & display bit anyway and almost all of Edmund Road from Charlotte Road to St Mary's Road is Pay & Display. Plus it's only £3.50 for 10 hours.

I think you may find that parking around Pigland is much more restrictive than Bramall Lane area which I don't think is anyything to do with Cllr Mick Rooney being a Blade.

Yes your probably right its the yellow lines around the small units that could be relaxed on match days. I'm not saying relax them on the corners of roads just on the straight parts. I would guess they are there to keep access available for large vehicles to access the units during monday to friday.
Double reds on corners and in front of access ways, then whatever other parking markings to make parking possible for on a saturday afternoon.

How should I know? I don't go there it smells.

I was merely trying to point out that there isn't a council conspiracy to make parking in the Bramall Lane area more restrictive that Hillsborough.

The people on Belgrave Sq should be more grateful to Blades fans pouring money into their community on a fortnightly basis and equally grateful to SUFC for creating local employment opportunities and local community facilities.

|Yes, but we don't know that they complained. The restriction on Belgrave Square just means more congestion on
Highfield Place and the other neighbouring streets on Saturday afternoons. Are parking permits going to be needed to park on those streets too?
