Just listening to a Podcast of Christian O'Connell's radio show Saturday morning and Michael Palin admitted to being a Blade. This is now put to bed :-)

old news matey. Read a book of his years ago and he said he was a Unitedite. He was somewhere obscure and he got news that united had won and was happy as a pig in shit. Nah, nah, nah, nah .... :D

No true Blade EVER wears a grunters badge though......the info is from reading his book "The Python Years".

I think he probably liked to represent both Sheffield teams in reality.

In his book he states pretty clearly that when hes out of Sheffield he keeps an eye out for both teams, but when hes in Sheffield hes a Blade. He mentions going to see the Blades at Stamford Bridge in 1972 with Bill Oddie, a Chelsea fan.

- B.Oddie? Thats not a prank phone call thats Bill Oddie.

- We thought it said 'body'

- Whats rude about a body?

- Tits?

My mum has one of his books and on the cover of it there is an image of a Sheffield United pocket watch (If I remember rightly). Throughout the book he also mentions phoning his family when away to check up on the United score.

in a promo pic for his around the world documentry, palin is if i remember right on a mountain in the himalayas in a blades shirt, hes also mentioned on a few talk shows, his love of the blades tho admits to following both teams and promoting Sheffield.
good on the man.

I've got a Monty Python album and there is a refference to United on the inside cover.
Can't remember exactly what it is though and can't check yet as i'm at work

never mind all this, can anyone remember if Billy chinned Vinnie?

Not mutual friends.

For context for everyone else. Facebook yesterday suggested to me that i might know Jas Mann of Babylon Zoo and Spaceman fame. No idea why.

I remember him being over the moon on one of his televised world trips back in the 80s when he came across one of the local put -put scooter type taxi things in somewhere like the Phillipines that was covered in Blades stickers and scarves etc .

Have you been watching the new Mid Morning Matters episodes that are being put out by Fosters? Partridge did another great bit on Bill Oddie perpetrating a suicide bombing a few weeks back...

The scenario starts at 07:30

"Oddie is like a bearded Catherine wheel scything through the crowd."

:D

Michael Palins parents at their Sheffield home. He once said "My mother and father weren’t Yorkshire people. We ended up there because my father was an engineer. It was during the depression in the 1930s and he couldn’t get any work down in the south, so he ended up working first in Hull, then Leeds, and then he went to Sheffield towards the end of the 30s, where he found work with a company called Newton Chambers.
