Thoughts on JCR's ten men/balotelliesque celebration?
Thought it was hilarious saying that I love abit of self-confidence in a player, least he's not going to hide and stop trying things that's why I prefer JCR to Flynn on current form. Even though I am a big fan of Flynn when he's not confident he doesn't take those risks that he was doing towards the backend of last season when he was on-fire.
Would love to see Flynn gain that confidence back sooner rather than later as he can skin a full back inside out when he believes in his ability. Overall it's nice to have competition for places out-wide (just need to sort that forward line out!)
Overall thoughts on last night, we played 'alright' but just 'alright'. They had a few half chances first half but overall I never felt we were under the cosh & massively threatened & we rightly took the lead through Baxter's fine solo effort. They scored not long after the restart through a deflected effort & we took longer than we should to put the game to bed but eventually did after McNulty's tenacity got him in & he played JCR in to finish it off.
Turner - 6 - not a lot to do really, caught a few routine crosses & his kicking was pretty decent
Davies - 6 - not at his best but then again he's not a full back, still think he was wrongly dropped last Saturday
McGahey - 6 - played well for me another who was wrongly dropped last weekend
Basham - 6 - much prefer him at centre half as he doesn't have to influence the game as much in terms of getting on the ball & making us tick which he hasn't done so far in a R&W shirt
Harris - 6.5 - a few wideward slices into touch but played with real drive & purpose last night. Obviously recognizes the competition for places in his spot & wants to make a mark to make the spot his own
JCR - 7.5 - our most dangerous man all night, always looks to go on the front foot which I like
Reed - 7 - worked his socks off, got stuck in & his distribution was impressive. He didn't waste much and sprayed it with some fantastic knocks second half
Baxter - 8 - the main man. Everything went through him first half, first in the deep role dictating then when he moved into a more advanced role. Working a lot harder this season & as I say it's important we keep him fit as he makes us tick
McGinn - 6 - started brightly then faded, just feel like he doesn't stamp his authority & influence the game enough
Diego - 6 - was neat & tidy with his distribution but didn't impose himself enough. In saying that there wasn't many occasions he had to stand his man up & get at him. Reckon he'll be out on-loan once Clough finds the right side for him to go to
Porter - 6 - Ahh Christopher, Christopher, Christopher. He works hard, a lot harder than Higdon, he got in good goal-scoring positions & he should have scored a few. Is he the answer to our forward line firing on all cylinders & being feared by defences up & down the country? No. Is he our own Chris Porter who plays the guitar & likes Alan Carr? Yes, yes he is
SUBS:
McNulty - 7 - Like the lad a lot. Everytime I've seen him play he looks bright, got a bit of pace about him, gets stuck in & works his knackers off. I'd love to see him start uptop with a partner, he could do some damage in this league
Murphy - 6 - not really effective when he came on, had one run that was crowded out. Last season's Murphy will come back we've just got to be patient with him
Collins - N/A - uptop for last ten minutes. Was more comedy value than anything else. Won a few flick-ons & ran about abit
