Paddy is the best keeper we have had since the Kelly/Tracey years. Unfortunately, he soured his reputation firstly with the drugs ban and then secondly, leaving straight after we had stood by him.

I don't think anyone would have complained if he had gone the following season after 'repaying' his debt to the club, in order to further his career.

We were happy to sell him.

I always thought we should have made more noise about the ban, which seemed excessive and poorly timed to me, but on the other hand I would hate us to be like the perpetually hard done to scousers so tough one really!

The circumstances surrounding his sale are still not clear to this day, so please spare me the ITK bullshit, but I guess it gives the usual suspects something to be outraged about. Thankfully Tyler Durden is most definitely not. You might not like his response to your 'oh so measured' thoughts but I'm confident he speaks for far more Blades than you.

Most of my mates don't post on here but they all despise Kenny to a man. I think any poll of Blades would give you a similar result.

Kenny was the third (and the 3rd best) of 3 great keepers I was privileged to see in a 20 year span. We really were spoiled.

The club did stand by Kenny. On the other hand, they also lowballed him on wages and set a low trigger figure for a transfer in his contract. That was one of the things that contributed to our relegation.

They learned nothing from this situation, of course, as it was repeated when McDonald left for Wolves.

Kenny is a complex character. Some of the stories about him do not reflect well on him. I met him once and found him an nice guy, affable and approachable to fans, and I've heard others say the same.

He gave us some terrific years. That's what I choose to remember most about him.

Paddy has met me a couple of times, and was a nice bloke. He even happily posed for a picture with my piggy father-in-law with good grace. One of my brothers has had professional dealings with a couple of Paddy's mates, and the general opinion there is that he's a nice guy but as thick as mince and a piss-poor judge of character.

Indeed. The club were experts around this time at moving players on, getting money in and, somehow, selling it as the players wanting away.
Kenny falls into exactly the same category as Beattie in that we wanted rid, got rid, and still managed to make it look like the player was the bad guy.
We set the release trigger for Kenny so low it was inevitable it would be triggered that summer.​

I just can't "despise" him. Here's my thoughts for what they are worth.

He was part of a great time to be a Blade. I'd go along with third best in the time I've been watching, I rate Kelly, Tracey and Kenny in that order.

The cough medicine thing was pretty stupid, although I personally thought the ban was over zealous.

I (and I suspect the majority of us) have no idea of the exact circumstances of Kenny's departure. I have some sympathy with those who think he shat on us because in many ways thats how it appeared at the time, and still does I guess.

But.......................I also think that the board are not adverse to accepting half decent offers for our players when they come along, perhaps this was the case here? I don't know, just surmising.

So, thanks Paddy, but just like me, you have to live with the consequences of some of the choices you make in life. You'll never be held in quite the regard that your time with us really deserved.

Genuinely they hate him for walking out after we'd paid his wages. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the contract offer he owed us for supporting him but pissed off to join fellow 'Big Blade' Warnock for a few bob more.

The mistake against Everton wasn't showboating. He just dropped the ball. It was an error, which could happen to any player on the pitch. A bit like the error that you made in stating that it was a free-kick (it was a penalty).

I'm 54 later this month but I don't suppose I'll be growing up anytmey soon.

Actually I find that the some of the wankier Blades on here do tend to make an impression on me too, although somewhat less positive.
