We're really not that far away, and dominating the current 2nd place team today shows that. We have a system that works, good style of play, intelligent movement in the final 3rd and create high percentage chances.
All we need now is:
- Pacey striker to stretch the play and give us something off the bench (and no, Ched Evans is not the answer)
- Pacey winger to allow us to go to a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 if and when needed.
- Creative center mid, someone who can pick that final pass.
...the above will create competition for places once again, something I think the likes of Clarke and Fleck thrive on. It would be easy for both of them to get a bit comfortable now, it would be smart management to bring in two new players to challenge them.
- Set pieces - they've been poor. I'm not an advocate of just lumping corners into the box, however, we really need to improve on these to get the extra edge. 13 corners today - could have been the edge we needed to get the three points.
Well done Wilder and Knill. Think they're squeezing every last ounce out of the squad they have...just imagine if they were given just 5 million pounds to spend!
