Early days to talk about promotion but it is a possibility joint top with a much stronger deeper squad and money in the transfer kitty for January. That possibility must be adding millions to the club value and must be having an influence on the mood of the dispute/negotiations.

Last I heard was they were having mediation in September but I've heard neither official updates or rumours.

Hope the back room shenanigans don't screw up the current position of strength on the pitch cause we always seem to be holding a spanner over the United gearbox.

It'll be a repeat of last season. Nowt gets spent cos we're right in the mix for promotion and both the owners are playing greedy guts.

But we did spend last January and brought it all our targets.
It looked like being one of our best January transfer windows ever.
The problem was we tried Wilders normally successful tactic of buying star players from the lower leagues and hoping they quickly adapt to the Championship, this policy failed on this occasion because Holmes, Evans and Leonard just weren’t good enough.

Wilder has admitted that he’s now changed his policy and won’t be targeting the cream from the lower divisions anymore, says we need experienced Champimship level players, hence we bought Egan, Norwood and McGoldrick.

Also Wilder has already confirmed that the £5 million he didn’t spend on Waghorn is still available in January.
The problem is a top level Championship striker costs well over £10 million ans probably close to £15 million with close to £40K a week wages. The board refused to meet the huge wages Derby offered Waghorn and so far it looks a great decision to not over spend because Waghorn isn’t even getting a game at Derby.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we try to bring in a top quality PL striker during Jan and use the £5 million to contribute towards the players massive wages. Something like when Fulham had Mitrovic on loan from Newcastle last season.

I think we need another striker, a younger one this time, and a younger version of Duffy
I don't have complete faith in Washington being the answer and Woodburn hasn't produced anything yet
Sharp, McGoldrick, Clarke and Duffy will all tire later in the season, although Clarke may not because he's not getting games. But he's not getting games because he's not doing the biz

Agree, although the Duffy replacement/ creative attacking midfielder types usually cost a premium. The most obvious name that might be realistically affordable is Luke Freeman at QPR or maybe a punt on Bradley Dack, however I reckon both might be nearer £ 10 million instead of £5 million, so probably cost too much. Think it all depends on which players are in the final year of their contracts.

Another factor is getting the balance right between long term development and short term developement.
The loan system is the short term approach but it enables clubs to bring in the top (usually unaffordable players) players.
Wilder might push the boat out to bring in a PL striker on loan, which might be enough to help us finish top 2.

Ive been mulling this over as well, all very quiet, I'm working up to emailing Mr McCabe in my capacity as a shareholder and a nosey bugger.

Ah, the old "legs have gone" chestnut. I'm getting pretty fed up of repeating myself, but Billy's game is not and never has been, about running and pace.

I don't know enough about McGoldrick and I am aware he has suffered plenty of injuireis in his carrer, but his game seems to be more about guile and skill than out and out running.

The Duffmeister keeps getting written off but still manages to do it. He does go missing in some games but it doesn't seem to be related to the number of games he's played.

Having said the above, I have to agree with you. A youngish fast striker and a clever player in the Duffy mould and we'd be complete and set to challenge anyone.

A PL Striker in on loan and a move for Luke Freeman would be ideal I reckon.

I'm not exactly writing them off, but I am concerned about their ages, injuries do take their toll and little knocks have a greater effect on 33 year olds than they do on 26 year olds. Sharp might not be about running and pace but he can still tire, mentally as well as physically and any little knocks he gets will take it out of him more now than what it would have done 5 years ago.
Duffy's style of play will definitely mean he will need to be taken care of and rested regularly later in the season

It's bound to happen at some point in the season with older players, it's just that our older players are also the most damaging to the opponents unfortunately

Freeman is a very good shout and a player I think would be able to compete with Duffy for the #10 shirt or to put it a better way, enable CW to play Duffy more sparingly and ensure he doesn't burn-out. Not sure how much he'd cost (£4-5m??) and whether he'd be affordable but Blackburn turned down £15m for Dack in Aug so he's miles out of range.

Yep, money, money money. It's always the problem.
But if we are in with a chance of promotion in January, a proven goal scorer and a creative midfielder on loan should be worth the risk.
It'll cost us a few quid in wages, loan fees etc without exactly crippling us and if it doesn't pay off they go back to their parent clubs.

But if it works, WOW!!!!!

it's not long since people where saying we would never find another Coutts with out paying millions for a premiership players.

Me, I'm thinking the only one we wont ever be able to find a replacement for Mr Wilder...…..

A "much stronger deeper squad" ?? Are you sure??? I swear blind I read on here that we'd had a godawful summer transfer window.

:)
