I can take losing. Really I can.

I can’t take being outfought and outworked, and we were today. I thought we were more prepared than most for the restart with one of the best attitudes in the league, well I might’ve been wrong.

Spineless and pathetic today, and not great against Villa. Things need to change and they need to change quick.

Wilder talked us up so much before the restart and we have been served up dross. As if the players are on holiday.

The only time under Wilder when we have been like this for more than one game was the last half dozen games of our first season back in the Championship when we seemed to tire.

Some of our players look very different since the break. Such a shame the pause came when it did, we were on great form and had real momentum. Confidence is key right now. It must not drop! We still need to back the backs publicly on social media and elsewhere.

Strange because I thought we would come out of the lockdown fit as fk and rarin to go.

up to now we’ve been the opposite and it’s the other teams that look like they’ve come out the traps quicker than we have

Wilder must feel let down but he has to take blame for some of the team selections and subs.

Seems like some of them feel like the job's done, avoided relegation, anything above that is a bonus anyway...sack it off.

Both games they've gone through the motions, hopefully getting thrashed will be a kick up the arse, letting that donkey Joelinton score should be motivation enough

We're always poor after a break. But I thought this would be different....

Nope.

Might get into our groove after a few games, but the season will basically be over by then.

It shows how finely tuned we were before.

It's quite worrying really because returning like this after what was effectively a pre season could well represent the difficulties we'll have next season in maintaining performance levels.

Think your issue is playing behind closed doors. It is not gonna do you any favours as I think that is the teams driving force.

IMO is not about attitude and effort. CW wouldn't put up with it and the players deserve a bit of slack from comments like that for how they have performed in the previous 29 games. The two performances suggest there is something seriously wrong in how we have prepared. The players looked leaden footed and knackered after 10 minutes. Its a new experience this mini season and maybe we have over trained and there is nothing left in the tank when they get on the pitch.

We have prided ourselves on our training regime during the season but this is not a normal season and it is clearly having an impact on the players. A post mortem on both performances needs to be carried out tomorrow and maybe we need to lighten up during the week and save the players legs.

Yes it doesn't help when we seem to be intent on shoehorning Berge into positions he doesn't normally play in but the key to our season has been our intensity during games and it has evaporated.

Confident that we'll find a solution but all avenues need to be explored including how the players feel about the new arrangements and whether this is impacting on their performances. One issue we can cross off the list is travelling to the game. We've stayed overnight now as well as travelling on the day and performed poorly both times.

I too expected us to be bang on it after the restart and am extremely surprised and disappointed in how poorly we have played so far.

But we still have 24 points left to play for and if I have learnt anything about this group then it is never to write them off.

It's not helping, certainly, but it's the same for all teams. Also, it's a bit weird you not putting the boot in!

As someone else said elsewhere, only Norwich have looked poorer than us so far. And even that's arguable.

We were not outfought, not out worked. The problem was errors of the very simple kind. 5 yard passing going to opposite players, 10 yard passing the same.etc. You give Premier league players free gifts eventually they will take advantage...even Joelinton and he's terrible. Basics were horrible. Fix the basics and the performances will improve.

Plus at the other end not getting the goals. We could have had 3 ourselves on another day.

Also dont forget we are notoriously slow starters. We always lost after the international breaks in the Championship. We've lost momentum (which we depend on) - f*cking COVID.

Maybe this was Southend 2.0.

I hope so anyway cause any more performances like that and it could be a long end to the season.

Berge and Ollie in the same midfield hasn't, and never will give us any kind of dynamic movement.
As good as they are/can be at what they do, they are both very ponderous and seem to care more about their 'passes completed' percentages that anything.
Part of the success in carving out chances is taking thinking time away from defenders.
Quick out from the back, quick through the middle and strikers will run their tits off to get on the end of a decent through ball/cross (Billy yesterday).
Leaving strikers to try and chase down defenders to win the ball and then create a chance is a waste of time.

Not spineless or pathetic, we simply got beaten by a team that played better than us.
