Wigan watford and newcastle. the only away wins we had. all in the glorious red and white stripes and all 1-0. I think the only point we got in that kit was away at Charlton

One of my favourite United photos is from the goal celebration at Charlton in the hated black & white kit - where Stead is celebrating with Tonge, Jags and Monty surrounding him from afar. Haven't got the link to it sadly.

I was at that match but I can never remember anything about the Shelton incident. I do remember Tonge hitting the bar though.

I was sitting in the home crowd with a friend who's a lifetime Manure fan and even he thought it was a penalty. In fact probably everyone except the ref thought it was. We might have got it this season though.

I was in a box that night which was open at the front into the crowd.

Had some good banter with the Man u fans sat in front of us but after the pen incident about 10/12 of 'em all agreed that 'you don't get a penalty here'.

The two penalty misses against Blackburn
Crazy nine minutes after half time at Fratton Park when we let two goals in
Dropping two points against Everton when Paddy gace away a daft penalty
dropping two points late on against Newcastle (Claude Davis with a weak back pass I think)
Missing a Penalty against Chelsea.

We had a lot of bad luck that season, but we also caused a fair few problems ourselves. No point dwelling though eh? Keep the faith :)

Was the Claude Davis balls up not the one at home to Portsmouth, pretty sure it was all pretty even with both side's cancelling each other out except for a Stead goal in the first half. Second half the ball ran past the defence and just about made it to our box where Paul Gerrard was, it was never really getting to him, but yet Davis left for the keeper and then Gary O Neil (?) got to it first and managed to stab it into the net.

I am also pretty sure that our centre halfs that game were Davis (An athletic, tall defender in his 20's) and Chris Lucketti (A 33 year old Morgs type of defender) with 33 year old Lucketti being the preferred option.

It wasn't quite like that. Portsmouth played the ball into our box and it fell between Davis and Gerrard about 6-8 yards out. There was no danger. Gerrard could have come out and picked it up or Davis could have cleared. As it happens, they both left it for each other and a Portsmouth player nipped between them and scored.

Quinn got our goal with a great free kick.

Ahaa Quinny with that deft free kick. I think I put Steads goal against Fulham into the Portsmouth game, thinking he scored on his debut
