Our Fans Are Rubbish

At home. Booing a 0-0 draw in our first season back in the Championship when we're in the top half? I'd feel betrayed if I were Wilder and Knill. Efforts to chant are futile, not many join in on the kop any more and as the for the rest of the ground? I'd rather get 14,000 and people actually try and get behind the team than just sit there and grumble at every single misplaced pass. It's almost like people can't wait for us to do poorly so they can complain.

The only thing we can do as fans to change the game is by getting behind the lads. It's 70 minutes, 0-0 and we're silent. Chants are to no avail. No-one seems arsed about trying to support Ricky in his conquest to improve the atmosphere either with the upper tier idea. It's almost as though no-one cares. Away from home, we are one of the best fans in the league but at home, it's a different story. It's our first season back in the Championship and I think our players/manager deserve far more than the library that we give them. Comes to something when we can't even get up for a game against Forest at home, irrespective of the conditions.

And we actually have the cheek to sing football in a library at away games...

It's truly bizarre isn't it? There's a palpable 'why bother' attitude and an absolute lack of enthusiasm. Despite everything we've got going for us. It truly seems like no one cares.

Today 3 fans in front of me even left with 10 minutes to go. This is at the back of the Kop.

When did we become weak, faint hearted and passionless?

We need to start singing 'football in a library' to ourselves.

The BLUT thing wouldn't be a complete solution but it'd help a lot. There's an opportunity there and I can't do much more. But obviously people can't be arsed.

Woooooooooooo, just fuckin woooooooooooooooo

Blades on the kop tried to suck the ball in today, few groans here and there but for 90 mins it was positive, just don't get why fans like you try to excuse a poor performance by blaming the fans.

Total bull shit.

Where do I blame the fans for our performance? I said that the atmosphere could be a lot better and would have a positive impact on our players. Don't think singing 'Sheffield United' for ages could have altered Fleck's decision making in the final 3rd today for example but could have made the Forest players nervous towards the end when we were attacking.

Kop trying to suck the ball in? It sucked with as much force as a person with emphysema drinking cold tea through a thin straw.

It is bizarre indeed. I just want the club to be the best it can be. Our manager/staff/players are trying, think we should go a bit further than just turning up and get behind them more.

Why don't u do something about it then? Ricky Herbert has set up a fans group on the Bramall Lane away end and got about 2 subscribers, why not do the same.

Fuck off attacking the fans.

I do by chanting but I can't do it on my own and neither can Ricky.

Just left some tissues below so you can dry your eyes. Here if you need anything.

Thanks pal, I'll distribute to the 20k plus Blades that don't do cart wheels in sub zero temps watching an abject performance. What a guy u are.

Don't think they do cartwheels in higher temperatures either  Thanks mate, appreciate it.

I think the real problem is kids nowadays not knowing what a scab really is.
SCAB SCAB SCAB SCAB
I think Utd need a midfield enforcer and we have gone a bit soft under Wilder. A full blooded thigh high chopping challenge into Watson and the other ginger scab midfielder would have got the crowd going nicely

You don't just create an atmosphere, this is where you are going wrong IMO (fair play for trying). Even if you get 100 or so fans singing non stop for 90 minutes it won't make a difference, an atmosphere is generated through interest, excitement and expectation. Take away one of those factors and you are pissing in the wind regardless of how hard you try.

Yes it’s the fans fault again, all 26k of us.

#sheffieldunitedfansareadisgrace
We do have responsibility to get behind the team, they are running out of gas and yes we do deserve to give them a Push in anyway we can .All we hear is moan, moan, moan. Last 9 games lets at least be positive .

What a load of shite
I presume everyone who slags the crowd off stands trying to enthuse a rapturous applause Every time Stevens turns away an oppurtunity for a cross and passes it backwards to anyone in a red and white shirt

I do wonder how old some are, or where they've been for years.

I agree today's atmosphere was far from good and many home games could be better.

Thing is that has been the case since I started going to our games in 1981.

I can remember umpteen amazing atmospheres over the years home and away, and likewise plenty of annoying or disappointing ones.

Despite this approach of some that it's a modern day phenomena I can assure you it's not, and if anything I actually think it's not quite as bad on the bad days.

The booing today was minimal and just a few saddoes or a few just getting too frustrated.

I certainly remember worse responses during the 89/90 promotion season. The Oxford defeat at home late season was a shocker and royally pissed Bassett off.

What is everyone on about? The atmosphere has dropped off from earlier in the season when we were playing very well - the kop was almost sucking the ball in back then.

Today however i thought the noise on the kop was good bearing in mind there wasn’t much on the pitch to get them excited about.

In comparison to some of the atmospheres of late - burton and even Leeds, it was a big improvement. Stop going if it frustrates you that much and let the rest of us enjoy the matchday

Regardless of the weather, result, how we played, or owt else, the atmosphere is different. I stand (yes) on the kop, gangway D, and thought that today it was better than it has been. I agree that it's not what it was, but nowt is - people tend not to eat tripe much now, enjoy the paddle boats at Millhouses park, or sup gallons of Ward's. I don't think young 'uns are as bothered about being lairy or loud at football, and when they try to be there's a bunch of moany old farts complaining about flares etc. You can't have atmosphere without a bit of lairiness! I just think times change. As well as being a Blade I'm a biker, and this has changed too. Most bikers now are oldish blokes, as young people (lads mainly) either can't afford to ride a bike now, or it's just out of fashion - oily, mucky and loud (great!). Unfortunately I can see football going the same way, and it's just part of times changing and society getting more sanitised (but not civilised!). Hats off to Ricky for having a go though!

Today was a disgrace our biggest game this year and the NTFC fans were able to take the piss.

It was bitterly cold to be fair, and with all that snow blowing into my face I have to admit there were a few times when I couldn't be arsed to swear at that disgrace of a referee.

Good post. I wonder how many of the people who liked your post offer any vocal support to our team, despite moaning about the lack of it.

I suspect very few.

Pretty sure we beat Oxford at home that season. Was one of my first games. Think it was 2-1 Blades but don’t remember who scored.

Completely agree. We’re reknowned for having a noisy home ground. Forest fan in the Station was surprised how flat it was as he’d picked this one as one with a real atmosphere. It’s on its arse at the minute.

Need that safe standing section or at least Ricky’s section at the back middle of the Kop.

How are we reknowned for having a noisy stadium? The atmosphere for years has been good in the odd high profile game and poor other than that. I think people have this romanticised view of the atmosphere at the Lane.

Historically the fans have turned up for the big games, the players on the other hand.....

absolute bollocks. someone put a Gareth Ainsworth quote on here last week.. 'when i fouled Kelly i begged him to stand up or i wouldn't have got out of there alive. Bramall Lane is a really intimidating place to go'.. fortress Bramall Lane

Without checking you may be right but I know the players got plenty of boos, far worse than yesterday.

All seater is the culprit.
Much more difficult to get a group of people together who want to sing.
That's why the singing is often better at away games.

Part of the answer is an all standing kop without designated slots. Or a standing area in the kop.
