Doyle & Coady don't do it for me.

Ideally McGinn & Coady should be the starting two, with McGinn sitting deep like how Britton does just dropping back to pick up possession from the defenders and generally recycling the ball and keep us ticking. with Coady playing slightly further forward & every so often making a late run and looking for the 'killer' pass forward to start dangerous attacks. I do believe Coady has the has to talent and vision to be effective in this system and that type of role providing our front 4 is improved on come the next league match

For me Coady just doesn't do it. Not good enough

So, what makes you think that Coady has done more to deserve his place than Doyle?

Doyle has been one of our better and most consistent players this season.

There lies the problem

We need 11 new un's with one day left to do it in and no pennies.

Only good part of the set up is the manager at the moment but we can't build him a team

He definitely doesn't. Ideally I would like 2 new players there but even though we may now be loaded we wont be able to just sign loads. Unless we can be creative with the accounts. Get a business set up called Bramall Lane Stadium PLC and sponsor the ground for £.......... then we get income

He could experiment with a change against Scunthorpe.

The problem is they are trying other combinations to fix the attacking problem.

Who'd be a manager ?

Coady would benefit in a side that has some confidence and self belief but we just aren't there yet.

I think he's more likely to give Coady a break and play McGinn

Doyle has been far better than Coady this season. I''ve been shocked at how poor an England U20 captain can look at league 1 level. He constantly looks to play the ball backwards and his lack of determination to stop the Mk player scoring with a free header was disgraceful.

He looks bad because he is making up for Doyle's disappearing acts. I really despair that anyone feels that Doyle should even be a squad player, never mind club captain

Got to disagree there, Doyle seems to be one of the only players prepared to get stuck in. He seems to care and seems determined. I also thought that against Bradford, he played the ball fairly well

Whilst that doesn't remove the fact that our squad is weak, when two of the best performers are Flynn and Doyle, then Weir has a job on his hands.

Don't criticise Doyle for playing better than the rest, criticise the rest for being shite :)

Yep...it's Doyle's fault that Coady is so negative and couldn't even be arsed to challenge for the ball yesterday which meant we lost rather than drew.

I don't think those words will ever come out of my mouth. Doyle is utter shite and makes everyone around him shite. When was the last time he did anything to pull us out of the shit? I leave you to ponder that :)

You will have to let me know that tackle Doyle made?

Your argument is so strong I will have to cave in and agree. It was also Doyle's fault that Taylor and Brandy missed sitters. In fact had Doyle not played yesterday we'd have won 8-0 at least

I am sorry, I thought you were blaming Coady for all of that?

Doyle does not suit the style of football were trying to play and imo doesn't even deserve to captain our side, the lad hardly offers anything. While Coady on the other hand hasn't been brilliant but to me he's shown flashes that with the right players around him and more game time he'll improve and hopefully flourish in our side.

How come McGinn played a man of the match performance in the first home match when all was rosy and then we don't see him in a home match since?

Coady seems to OK when facing the opposition's goal but cannot (or will not) turn when receiving the ball when facing our own goal. Every such ball is played back to a defender. Who coaches him, the Chuckle Brothers? From me to you, you to me, me to you.

McGinn & Baxter has enough skill to accept the ball and then turn to pass forward

Just thinking of players within our range at least i think so who could help us in our central midfield problems and a name that sprung to mind would be Yeovil's Ed Upson, cannot see him costing more than £1m perhaps around &750k would be fair, he has the qualities to play numerous roles in CM like the box to box midfielder also possesses the quality to be a playmaker from deep

Why would Ed Upson want to drop back to playing in League one ?

As 99% of the time money talks, we could double his salary at the very least. Couldnt see us signing somebody of his quality tomorrow but come January and depending on where we are & where Yeovil are positioned in the respective tables i think it'd be a possibility.

At the moment we have no money just talk of "significant investment", our idea of significant might be way different to McCabe's, and then we have heard it all before with Jacob Esan the south London council house tennant  let's wait and see eh

I genuinely think we have a very good player in Coady. Granted he's not shown a great deal of it, but he is a very good passer of the ball and seems a very intelligent player. I do think he is a little lightweight and gets out muscled in this league. I just think he needs something different at the side of him in midfield. Maybe that is McGinn or maybe its somebody we need to go out and find. For me we're to defensive minded in midfield. I don't see any of our midfield getting more than 5 goals a season (saying that I don't see our current strikers getting that many). I know it has been said before but I really would like to see Murphy up front (with Baxter) and us get an out and out winger in.

Are you serious? Had you said 75k you might have a chance.

No, read it again

Yep, read it again and it still makes no reasonable sense. From what I read you are suggesting a player from Yeovil would cost us £750k-£1m. We could double his wages and in January he might want to come. Questions I would ask that are fair and reasonable:-

Would you move from a Championship club to a League One club?
How the hell do you know we could double his wages?
Isn't that a massive gamble for a club like us to make?
When did you think for a moment we would spend between £750k and a million on someone?

Everything above is against the ethos of McCabe. To put up the wage bill that is already the highest in the division (exception of Wolves), do you think he is going to do that?

A less fair question would be what the hell were you smoking when you posted that?

how can we have the highest wage bill .. doyle must earn more than ronaldo.. most of the guys are recent additions that joined since we were in division 3 and the others are ex academy types and youngsters

The issue with our central midfield combination is that the formation Weir is playing requires either the two holding players to be capable of picking an incisive forward pass to one of the front four or the full-backs to be pushing on.

At the moment, in central midfield we've got Doyle whose strength is winning the ball and playing a five yard pass and Coady, who's still adjusting to the demands of first team football: neither of them is capable of the incisive pass at the moment. In addition, playing McMahon and Hill/McGinty removes the second option.

The key for me is as it's been for the past 13 months - the full backs. In an ideal world, by midnight tonight we would have sold McMahon, Hill and Williams and acquired replacements comfortable with going forward. Flynn could play at right back; left back we'd need to get someone in.

We've got a first team squad of 25. That's probably the biggest outside of the three teams relegated from the Championship.

GKs: Howard, Long
RBs: McMahon, Westlake
LBs: Williams, McGinty
CBs: Collins, Maguire, Hill, Kennedy
RMs: Flynn, Brandy
LMs: McFadzean, Johns
CMs: Doyle, Coady*, McGinn, Whitehouse
AMs: Baxter, De Girolamo
SCs: Ironside, Porter, Taylor, Miller, Murphy

Bold = my guess at the "legacy" contracts referred to by Julian Winter - those outside the current wage structure. In addition, we're probably paying a proportion of Cresswell's wages and Higginbotham won't have left for free.
* = on loan
