Average tenure for a football manager these days: 1.23 years. (Or 0.86 years in the case of Championship clubs, a more realistic comparison given that's where we really out to be.)

http://www.skysports.com/football/n...-tenure-of-managers-in-england-just-123-years

So, are we really this fabled "sacking club" we're made out to be, or just part of the norm?

Let's think about bucking the trend & having Arsene Wenger-type longevity in a manager once we're out of this division & properly established at a higher level, eh?
It's an average though and is skewed by the clubs run by fuckwits such as Forest who sack two or three managers per season.

Sigh. It wasn't sold for £1.
Whether it was or wasn't, I'd very much doubt anyone would pay £60m for a L1 club, complete with its own ground. Maybe the prince has realised he own 50% of very little.

I agree, up to now though they've paid jointly more than £60 million for something worth nowhere near that.

Not the point I was disagreeing with though

The way he talks and acts is not the way a man would go about his daily business. No sign of panic just going about his job in a normal way, bringing in young players to build a team for the future. Is that the mark of a man who knows his job is under threat.
I this turns out to be a malicious rumour, this so called Itk should be banned from this site as this kind of thing does a lot of damage to the club.
Yep, he was posting "the view from my office" on Twatter this morning. Didn't give the impression of a man seeing out time.

If the rumours are true, and Adkins is out at the end of the season, I reckon this means we are looking for our 10th manager in 9 seasons.

The board are supposed to be the sensible ones, to rise above the knee jerk criticism, and see the bigger picture, if they appoint `the most qualified man on earth`, and give him a 3 year contract, why rip up the plan 12 months in?

Our club is rudderless, lurching from one manager, one style of play to the next, hoping to eventually get lucky, we would have more stability with Brian the Blade on the board.

When Bassett relegated us to what is now League One in his first season, he tendered his resignation, when he walked in to see Dooley, the great man said something along the lines of `We have employed you to do a job, I suggest you go and do it`
Wish he was still here now, a football man who understands football.

To quote a football coach I spoke to at an Academy game `Your club deserves everything it gets for the way it treats managers, no wonder you are where you are`

Joke club, joke board.

Can`t wait for McCabe to come on, and tell everyone, we are not a sacking club!

Or a selling club

No but it was the main point of his post.

You do tend to go off on a tangent. ;)

Sensible approach is ^

Adkins doesn't make one want to be sensible unfortunately.

The past shows pulling the trigger is not successful.

The past shows we can't pick a good 'un but.......

The CV is right.

Glad I'm not in charge, its such a fucked up situation.

I have heard many accusations levelled at our beloved board; I have heard them called many things in the past few years ..........

But I have NEVER heard them being labelled as being sensible !!! o_O

That's because he didn't intend to sack him. Some row at a Board Meeting left the situation untenable. These things happen.

Aye they do happen but they don't have to. Trouble with successful men is, they get very unused to hearing criticism directed at them. They become surrounded by 'yes-men' - that's why a boardroom spat can degenerate into an inadvertent sacking.
Who'd have thought that Brian Clough's son could be so impertinent & insubordinate, who'd have thought it? Geez, its that family's USP isn't it, it shouldn't have come as a surprise?

Much as I like him personally, it must have dawned on Kevin that it is his bad decisions that have shipwrecked this once proud football club. In my experience he listens to sycophants - look what a mess they made of trying to rebuild the ground for a kick-off (my professional territory) you know what qualifies the architects who fcuked up the Kop/John St, corner.....sycophancy.

To be frank current property development proposals for the Lane are as useless, no big ideas, no forward planning - banal and utterly without merit too. Sounds a bit like the plans for the future of the club.....

We all knew Robson would be a disaster and even I didn't have the guts to tell Kevin when I saw him the morning of the appointment - I think he read my disappointment in my body language - still, it was too late by then anyway.

Kevin has to step aside rather than Adkins in my book, he's tried, at times he's been game, having a go at buying out foreign clubs OK, but that gamble failed.

Trouble is, the McCabe family are as good as immovable if someone doesn't buy them out and the pity for them is, like all unsuccessful gamblers they have invested much more than the bet was worth.

Its also blindingly obvious that the 2 co-owners, neither of them resident in England, let alone Sheffield are too remote to control the club - their proxies, naive in the ways of soccer out of their depth too.

Kevin, the quantity surveyor made-good has got to take a difficult decision and walk away from money that he believes is owed to him for the sake of the club because look what a mess all this dithering about has caused.

It's ironic that the board are constantly slated for lacking ambition.

BUT it's only the most ambitious of clubs that sack their managers when they fail to perform.

Clubs like Chelsea and Real Madrid have high standards.
If their managers fail to hit their targets then they are sacked and replaced.

There's very slight signs that he is starting to get things looking a bit better.......very slight signs I know
I'd give him another crack at it next season, if things turn out as badly again by Christmas then I agree he should go.
Regardless of some poor signings he was left with a bunch of players whose attitude stinks to high heaven.

He brought Sharp in, without who, we might have actually gone down this season

so how did he improve it to ensure it was good enough

He has incrementally improved it in my opinion by getting in some better players while getting rid of players that were not helping both the squad and the atmosphere around it, but nowhere near enough (for which I hold the board responsible). I don't believe Adkins said that it was good enough following the changes he made – how could he when he's consistently said we've needed at least a couple and we've been unable to bring them in?
