If the rumours are true, and Adkins is out at the end of the season, I reckon this means we are looking for our 10th manager in 9 seasons.

The board are supposed to be the sensible ones, to rise above the knee jerk criticism, and see the bigger picture, if they appoint `the most qualified man on earth`, and give him a 3 year contract, why rip up the plan 12 months in?

Our club is rudderless, lurching from one manager, one style of play to the next, hoping to eventually get lucky, we would have more stability with Brian the Blade on the board.

When Bassett relegated us to what is now League One in his first season, he tendered his resignation, when he walked in to see Dooley, the great man said something along the lines of `We have employed you to do a job, I suggest you go and do it`
Wish he was still here now, a football man who understands football.

To quote a football coach I spoke to at an Academy game `Your club deserves everything it gets for the way it treats managers, no wonder you are where you are`

Joke club, joke board.

Can`t wait for McCabe to come on, and tell everyone, we are not a sacking club!

Then let's hope these "rumours" are total BS.

The way he talks and acts is not the way a man would go about his daily business. No sign of panic just going about his job in a normal way, bringing in young players to build a team for the future. Is that the mark of a man who knows his job is under threat.
I this turns out to be a malicious rumour, this so called Itk should be banned from this site as this kind of thing does a lot of damage to the club.

Kev starts getting it in the neck- a manager goes. Standard practise .
Kevin McCabe has done more for this football club than any other chairman in our history, he is as frustrated as anyone.
His only negative, for me, is he can`t pick managers!

But when Clough went, he said `we are not a sacking club`, the stats do not back up that statement.

Bit harsh to say Bassett relegated us.

We were 3/4 through the season already.
True, he tried to change things but couldn`t stem the tide.

He did feel guilty enough to offer his resignation though, thankfully the rest is history.

That's because he didn't intend to sack him. Some row at a Board Meeting left the situation untenable. These things happen.

Weir suffered from a change of ownership and the new funds meant a rookie manager was inappropriate all of a sudden, particularly after his poor results in a difficult start to the season.

Speed resigned.

Blackwell had a season longer than he might have expected.

Wilson had two seasons and that was fair IMO.

Adams never settled and was not supported in the dressing room, best for all concerned, Adams had a cruel time with us.

Robson was a mistake.

Warnock stayed 7 years.

We have sacked 7 managers in 16 years which more or less spans KM's ownership. One of those was Weir which was unavoidable in the circumstances.

In the Prince's time since 2012 we have sacked two managers, one was Weir and the other left the Board with no option apparently. Adkins is still with us.

Stats do not tell the full story.

Stats are all well and good, but the big stat is that with a performing team, and 5/6 perceived quality additions, were in a worse off position wise than last season...

Even with the genius of Nigel Adkins in charge...

Tell me one reason to keep him based on the football we have seen on the pitch...just one...If I had to give a reason, it'd be the unseen work Hammond does for the team, that us mere mortals don't understand, it's not that he couldn't trap a bag of we cement... It's that he's the new beckenbauer, and we just can't see what he does, were so shit arnt we...

Yeah, if they do sack Adkins, it goes back to short term scapegoating and you would worry about any long term re-structuring of the club...

Planks...the lot of em'...

In McCabe we trust !

Fuck me what a joke we are. Things will not change for the better until KM goes and we have real change at the club.

Stronger emphasis on the academy.
More expansive style resulting in more goals being scored at home.
George Long's improvement.

If you can find someone with £60M+ and some extra for investment then please let Mr McCabe know
I sense that we're stuck with what we have

£60m?
For a league one club, 50% of which was sold for a pound a few year back when we had better assets and prospects?

That might be the problem....

As I said elsewhere, fella. Heat on the board, give the shouting hordes what they want, sack the sucker and the dairy is off. Now, what say you Albert?

The plan was promotion this season. Both the board and Adkins made that quite clear at the start of the season.

The fact that we haven't challenged for an automatic promotion spot, and we have the absolute narrowest of chances of sneaking a top 6 spot is proof that Adkins has not kept up his side of the bargain.

Public announcements can wildly differ from private expectations.

Indeed it might, but you would get the ground freehold chucked in for that amount ;)

True. However we were sold a promotion challenge by Adkins and the board at the start of the season. We haven't had anything like that and Adkins has to take most of the blame for it not materialising.

You will never hear an Sufc manager or board say otherwise while were in L1. Clough was not sacked for failing to get promotion.

9 managers in a decade
hate to point it out but thats the norm these days

be hard pushed not to find a club who have not had 5 to 10

and temporary interim managers shouldnt really count in this

chelsea for starters

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Chelsea_F.C._managers

had more than we have had 12 since 2006
and theyve won titles and a european cup
so number of managers you utilise it seems is irrelevant

If Tesco brought in a manager with a good cv to run a store but they fell down their profit list
hed be out , its how businesses work

football is a business now

True. However we were sold a promotion challenge by Adkins and the board at the start of the season.

My recollection was that he said "promotion is the aim" but he was also quite clear when he came in that the team wasn't good enough.

He will doubtless have a gagging order attached to his termination pay off.

So we will not get to find out whether he is another nutter like clough or has not had the backing of the board.
Or perhaps it's a bit of both?

Adams didn't have that much longer, did he? Half a season maybe?

I know sacking him was a popular decision, but I wonder what would have happened if we'd stuck with him

Sigh. It wasn't sold for £1.

How about " posting the same thing over and over again" Albert?

Average tenure for a football manager these days: 1.23 years. (Or 0.86 years in the case of Championship clubs, a more realistic comparison given that's where we really out to be.)

http://www.skysports.com/football/n...-tenure-of-managers-in-england-just-123-years

So, are we really this fabled "sacking club" we're made out to be, or just part of the norm?

Let's think about bucking the trend & having Arsene Wenger-type longevity in a manager once we're out of this division & properly established at a higher level, eh?
