Our best strikers ever

Best allround striker.

Thinking about it logically then it must be Deane.
He was the only player on that list that performed so well for us that he was deemed good enough to break into the England team.

Best goal poacher/ finisher
Got to be Edwards. He has this knack of always hitting the target.

I can't believe I'm the only person to list Woody.

Our top 5 scorers in the top flight are

Woodward, Dearden, Deane, Jones, Currie.

As a striker (literally) i.e. one who strikes the ball for goal, Woody has never had, and probably will never have, an equal.

I guess I'm just getting old, and I hope for all our sakes that somebody else tops that list in the next 10 years.

best ive seen in my lifetime
Steve Kabba (always entertaining to watch and scored some crackers)
Richard Cresswell (ran through brick walls for us, my mate called him the hidden gem behind ched evans success in that 1st season in league 1)
Billy Sharp (can always count on him)
Danny Webber (always liked him)
Jon Stead (i liked him in that premier league season especially that curled finish against west ham at the lane or the belter he scored against charlton that same season)

Brian Deane is my earliest memory of United and the icon of an era.

Our Billy's not far off though.

Deano, closely followed by Mick Jones. I'm sure though it's an age thing. I remember being inconsolable at infant school when Mick Jones was sold.

Deano
Mick Jones
Bill Dearden
Doc Pace
Keith Edwards

Haven't included Woody because he wasn't an out and out striker. Best goal scoring winger ever though.

Just wish that Deano had played in the same side as TC and Woody, we'd have murdered everybody.

It's because he was a winger. The striker is the target man.

I've looked it up.

Collins dictionary defines it as

"In football and some other team sports, a striker is a player who mainly attacks and scores goals, rather than defends."

If you saw Woody...

Always be Agana for me. Whilst all my friends loved Deane, I knew he needed Agana ... until he left and Deane continued smashing in the goals.

Deane, Dearden, Edwards, Jones

You'd have to add Sharp and Woody for me. I know Woody was a winger but he scored more than most we've had here and he was lethal in front of goal.

Sorry but Fjiortoft, Agana and Evans don't make the cut. Great players but not here long enough to become proper heroes.

Long shot would be Bobby Bobby Davison.
Here far less than the above trio but.......

Keith Edwards, scored regularly in his 1st spell in the 2nd tier......I doubt if we'd have gone down to the 3rd division in 1979 if Haslam hadn't sold him.. No 3rd division no BDM...

In my lifetime, Deano and Edwards.
Historically....
Fred Priest
Harry Johnson jnr
Jimmy Dunne
Jock Dodds
Doc Pace
Mick Jones
Billy Dearden

People obviously entitled to like whoever they like. But factually Brian Deane is best Blades Striker in my lifetime.
Pace, target man and Goalscorer all in one, would be worth MINIMUM £40M now.
Billy's been an inspiration and a leader this year, but not remotely in Deano's class.

That is Bert's point.

There can only be one best ever striker and it's Johnson.

Johnson (and Dunne) of course had the benefit of the change in the offside law which inflated goalscoring for half of Johnson's Blades career.

I did see Woody (and a few before him) and he was a brilliant winger and goalscorer. I also couldn't be arsed with semantics. This post was about strikers as understood by most football fans. The majority of posts in this thread will attest to that.

You could always start a post on our best ever wingers.

Just in case anyone was wondering wtf I was on about I was replying to ucandomagic's post quoted above.

I agree that Woody is up there, but he was a winger. Although most people would put him as a striker these days.

Johnson (and Dunne) of course had the benefit of the change in the offside law which inflated goalscoring for half of Johnson's Blades career.

Johnson also went on to be Mansfield Town's record goalscorer. He was never even a full time professional, he worked at Hadfield Steels.
He is by far and away our best ever striker.

I know. Holding 2 all time records is unique.

But Johnson was partly a product of the conditions of the time.
