I believe he came from Ecclesfield and was part of a sporting family that had strong links with Whitley Hall Cricket Club and Harry may well have played for them .

I am quite happy to admit when I'm wrong but I don't see what is wrong about my post. Care to elucidate?


Let's take two players, player B and player O

Player B has scored nearly twice as many goals (70) by the age of 23-and-a-half than player O (37) has. FACT.

Player O has scored over FOUR TIMES as many goals in the top two tiers (34) than player B had by the same age (8). FACT.

Who's the better goalscorer?

And first hurdle: this goal which my life depends on - is it a header from 10 yards out? A poacher's reaction? A long range effort? A run from halfway trailed by two defenders? A tap in? A penalty?

Finally - as you're being ridiculous I'll be a pedant. It's not "best" if you're comparing two alternatives, it's "better".

This level - McBurnie. Other than the goal at Bournemouth, sadly i've not seen enough of Billy to suggest he can cut it at as a goalscorer and i dont think im being harsh at suggesting that. His career record speaks volumes and he goes down as a legend for being such a key part of getting us where we are.
Billy a couple of years back would be a different story.

Not sure how much legs this has left so here goes.

As things stand, it’s 103 Bill, 12 Ol. This is because 4 posters chose to “spoil” their ballot papers and vote for all the candidates !

My bad really for not setting the poll up correctly .

So what did it prove ??

Well, fuck all in all honesty. Was just a bit of fun when all said and done .

And what was gleaned ?

I was honestly expecting, within the 4 walls of S2 4SU for an entirely different outcome. For it to be much closer. I would have had no
doubt that casting the net to a wider footballing audience would have resulted in a landslide (and fully understanding of the reasons why this would be so) but was much less sure of the outcome from “within”.

Which got me to thinking why is this so ??

The only answer I could come up with is that the forum, much like life in general, is heavily influenced by a minority that make a disproportionate amount of noise. That this disproportionate amount of noise distorts the perception of reality. It creates an untruth.

Now volume on a football forum can’t be measured in Db.

But it can be created by a minority of posters that, quite literally, live on the forum. That spend unhealthy amounts of time on here racking up a post count and monopolising shout box, mostly (But not always) being aggressive, rude and down right disrespectful directly to other forum members.

So, if this is anywhere near hitting the nail on the head, my personal learn from this is to drown out the noise. It really isn’t worth the dignity of any sort of response .
