Suggs opposite Brightside and Carbrooke Coop 🤣

We may differ here but if the socks were white instead and the stripes still fat but a little slimmer to allow for a second red stripe (I know there are red stripes on the sides but problem is they blend in because of the sleeve being red) then I agree it would've been an absolute masterpiece.

Still gotta be the black socks for

Still gotta be the black socks for me , I might be old fashioned but I associate the white socks / shorts with Stoke

Stripes aren't allowed on the back in the Premier league. So all those pining for a stripy back will have to see us relegated.

They get away with it as they have red numbers and letters.

Old articles. As proven on multiple times following those articles, teams have chosen to implement stripes on the back... Including Southampton

Yup the Avec diamond style shirt was trash but the 96/97 shirt after it was class.
Yeah that's true. It was the brand itself looked a bit naff and tacky, a bit like Elev8 now (but obviously not that bad!)

I'm a huge fan of the 91-93 kits, the yellow one in my eyes is our best away, the White one was a thing of beauty, the home shirt was brilliant, and they led us onto the green shirt and the blue/purple/green shirts. Class.

I was looking for “Cotton Oxford Traders” but I think they only do rugby shirts?

I once bought one in John Lewis for casual wear it was. Multi-coloured thing with a quartered design. Looked reyt good!

I was wearing it in this pub darn sarth one night and this bloke came up to me and goes: “Alright mate, how’ve we gone on?”

I looked at him a bit puzzled and I thought he must have mistaken me for somebody else. Or maybe I’d misheard him and he was asking how I was going on?

So I replied: “Not bad mate, how about you?”

Then he looked puzzled as well and he said, “No mate, I meant Quins. How’ve Quins gone on?”

“Quins?” I replied. “I’m sorry I’m not with you?” (I was sure by now he had mistaken me for a father of a family of 5!).

“HARLEQUINS!” He said. “You’re wearing a Harlequins shirt so I was wondered how they’d got on?

I haven’t a clue about rugby and didn’t even realise it was a Harlequins shirt I’d got on! I’d only bought it because it was nice colours. He weren’t impressed when I told him that! :D

I've voted for Macron. Underrated for me. Slight bias though as the Real Betis Macron shirt I have is a personal favourite (same template as our Hull semi-final shirt).

I bought this from their club shop in July 2015 during a month in Andalucia. It's a beauty.

The LeCoq Wards shirts will always be my favourite. Have a super vivid memory of going to a match with my mom when I was about 9 or 10 and we bumped in to my mate and his dad from school in the superstore. He was a spoilt arrogant little twat and his dad got him the new home shirt. Pissed me off 'cos my ma wouldn't get me one haha. Jokes on him, I got a program, he didn't.

I started off with this kit, and since 93, it's been rare I've bought a shirt, and thought it could match the design from back then...!👌

Adidas have otherwise made my favourite shirts from the past. Imo they've rarely come close to touching their designs from late 80s early 90s, but show signs of getting better 🙂

Get us a Patrick one, for what it's worth. Stripes front and back and on the sleeves, collar. Done. It isn't hard.

It clearly is extremely hard for Adidas as they've not managed it once in how ever many years we've had to have their kits. I really dislike Adidas if honest, great quality and when we got them as a kit supplier I was impressed as they're known for decent shirts etc. but not bought one single home shirt from them.

Umbro definitely the best but will give a mention to Avec, Le Coq, Patrick and Macron all did at least one decent home Blades shirts. The pick from the rest is the Avec one I think, worn by Gareth Taylor, there's only one!

Been looking back at past season's and the kits. Noticed they used to have the same kit for 2 seasons running (bad young memory), I think the last season they did this was 2004 the Desun shirt.

Anyone know why they stopped doing this? My guess is down to money and the new season buzz with a new shirt.

Talking of footy kit suppliers, there was a documentary on last week about Leicester based Admiral in the 70's who were one of the first big suppliers and basically kicked it all off.

I think it would be an enjoyable watch for any of you that are kit fanatics. It also shows you about supplying the England national team which gave Admiral global exposure than just on these shores for the World Cups in the late 70's and early 80's.

The doc was called 'Get Shirty' and you should be able to catch up with it on ITV Hub.

So the Adidas deal runs out 2 or 3 months into next season?! 🤔

Adidas best of the lot for me with Umbro a close second.

Le Coq Sportif 1st time round - The 97-99 home and away shirts were understated but brilliant (although the away was made from a weird dishcloth material). They had a decent stab at a florescent 3rd kit as well. The following set of home and away shirts for the Adrian Heath season were good with a bit of a retro feel, albeit they were marred by the horrendous BLADES sponsor logo (we'd sunk so low at that point nobody wanted to sponsor us).

2nd time around 2002-09 not so good. The Triple Assualt kit is seen as iconic but that is more down to the memories than anything else. Nobody liked it at the time, too much white (including white shorts and socks) and an ugly, boxy Desun logo on the front. The navy blue away shirt was a touch of class though but is not fondly remembered by many for obvious reasons.

The rest were generally poor - ugly designs, baggy shirts, cheap quality material. The promotion shirts weren't memorable and I remember the Premiership shirts being a big disappointment. The Robson home shirt was the only decent one of this era.

Avec - I've still got the diamond home shirt which isn't in too bad a state all things considered. Didn't mind this shirt too much as a one off and it at least had a proper collar. I'm glad though we didn't start experimenting away from stripes on a regular basis (like Bradford City for example). The follow up home shirt was a great design but the shirt quality was poor, bobbly material that went baggy. Didn't like 'Sheffield United' in caligraphy written down the stripes either. The Yellow and Purple away shirt - best way to describe that is "wacky". People hated it at the time but seem to love it now.

Patrick - had them for two seasons (2000-2002). The home shirt was a simple design with thin stripes and a proper collar that worked quite well. The big purple sponsor let it down. The gold and purple away kit that was described as 'gay' in the national press probably wouldn't raise an eye brow these days. Also had a very workman like white 3rd kit to go with it.

Macron - I got a few of these when they found their way to the bargin bin (the relegation home shirts were on sale for £2.50 a piece at one point) but on the whole they weren't great. Very poor quality with sponsors and logos coming off in the wash, sizing all over the place as well. A lot of godawful away kit designs as well.

The 'Sabella' style home kit was probably the best of the lot (shorts and socks were particularly good on this one). The 'Ched' home shirt wasn't bad either, very simple design. There was also a white 3rd kit that was cult classic not bestseller.

They were all ruined by the massive 'macron' logos on the arms though.
Great post mate.

Le Coq were strange. Started so strongly with all three 97-99 shirts among the best in our history imho, the millennium season's shirts were pretty good but like you say ruined by the awful 'Blades' cardboard sponsor.

Second time round the designs absolutely bombed and they only managed a couple of decent ones (the two you mention, blue Desun and Robson home) for the entire time. I'd say 2000-2010 is easily our worst decade for shirts, and for that reason, despite the odd classic, le Coq were our worst kit suppliers.

The 08/09 'vicar' shirt. Our worst ever home shirt by some margin!

Best decade was either 80s or 90s, both dominated by Umbro, so many classics. So I'd say Umbro were our best, followed by adidas who have also given us some awesome shirts I reckon.

How the hell are adidas struggling financially?? Especially with what they charge for a hoodie nowadays!

I wouldn't be too disappointed if we left adidas this year. They are good quality but if we don't have stripes on the back next season it will be a travesty.

I wouldn't be too opposed to Hummel if we were going to go down a new company or umbro if only for the potential of reissues of classic shirts

I’m actually dreading the quality of training gear if we go in house. I buy more training wear than football shirts

Got to be Umbro, from 89- were some of the best BLADES kits ever.
And for those moaning about the material, that was how it was then, remember shell suits!!?!!
The one thing that bugged me about Umbro though, not the kits, but the training gear, it was all the same for every club, just different colours.
Remember the 'V' coats.....I had one at school, went for Celtics green and black, as nobodyelse had one, everybody had the red and black or blue and black or blue and blue ones, and the cotton tracksuit that we had, ours was red, white and black, Wendy's was identical but blue white and black.........ah, memories......View attachment 87393View attachment 87394
Exactly right, the shirt material back then was flimsy, always pulls clicks and bobbles. But the training gear was extremely well made, i have that shellsuit too from ebay last year, mint condition. Proper made stuff, brilliant designs from umbro in 80’s and 90’s
